Imgur makes it fairly easy:
- After you've uploaded your image to Imgur, just hover your cursor over the pulldown at the top-right corner of your uploaded image that displays the URL.
- Click "Get share links", and then copy and paste what's in the "BBCode (Forums)" section to embed the image in a post here.
- Optionally, if you have a large border-breaking image, alter the [IMG] tags to [BIGIMG] instead.

A common mistake is to link to the page URL rather than to the image on that page.

I think I gave up too soon before and did an image tag start with a url tag end on mistake.
For my own feeble memory's sake - use direct link in img tags.
