My Nvidia 1070 GPU seems to be overheating

I got a financial windfall at the end of the year so I went ahead and bought a new CPU, GPU and motherboard. I left everything else the same but I'm getting overheating issues now. What do I need to buy and install to fix that?

First steps. Install cpu id and gpuz and check all your temps and see if they fall within acceptable ranges (Google what the acceptable ranges are). Let us know what they are and if they are within range.

Why do you think it's temps? Warning messages in the OS, at boot?

So I'm trying to run Path of Exile and I get a black screen after I leave the game, the monitors black out and I have to re-boot. Sorry I should have said this in the first place. At rest, according to HWMonitor the temps are fine, it's in game where it's blacking out.

Can you play another game for a while that doesn't crash to get a load going on your gpu and then take a look at the temps. Those temps look fine so far.

If no other game is crashing on you, chances are it's not the card, which is good.

Afterburner lets me set a power/temp limit (as well as monitor the hardware stats), while RTSS lets me set a per-application FPS limit (which also limits the gpu workload -- I'm a suspenders-and-belt kind of guy).

Really doesn't look like an overheating issue. Did you have a problem exiting that game or any other game?

This thread has some problems with the game, not your problems, but problems. Maybe some of the tips in there might help?

I think you are right, as I told GeForce Experience to optimize the game (I never thought that meant anything but I guess it does) and as long as I log out to the menu and then to desktop it's fine.

Or driver. I let GeForce Experience manage mine now. I dont just jump and install one when it wants me too if its all working ok but I find it handy anyways.

Nope second time it black screened again and yes GeForce is managing the driver. I guess I'm not playing it. Anno was fine so it's not necessarily a graphic heavy game that is the issue.

Check your DirectX options under Game Options. I was having the same problem until I changed the renderer from DirectX 9 EX to DirectX 11. Once I did that, the game was able to close normally and I was returned to my desktop.
