My net connection is 60/4 .....but on Steam I NEVER get more than 8.0 or 8.1 download speeds. Is this capped or do some of you get faster downloads? Is there anything I can do to speed mine up? It just hits 8 MB/s and stays maxed there.

I routinely get in the mid-20s on a 250Mbps connection. As we’ve noted before, your internet connection is measured in bits per second. Steam reports bytes per second. So it’s maxing out around 64 Mbps for you, which makes sense.

Under Steam -> Settings -> Downloads, there's a setting that throttles the bandwidth. I tend to keep mine capped since otherwise Steam consumes every available bit of bandwidth and brings everything else I'm doing to a screeching halt.

I noticed it slowed me down.

Yeah, Steam doesn't play nice. Back in the day when I had Vonage, it would actually steal the bandwidth reserved for the phone. Not exactly sure how it pulled it off since the cable went into the phone modem first, and then the cable modem.

But I couldn't use the phone and download on Steam at the same time.

In that menu there is also an option to show d/l rate in little b bits rather than bit B bytes. It might make you feel better.
