Steams been freezing up on me
Lately Steam has started just freezing up on me. Just now I clicked to open it and its froze on what I viewed yesterday. I dont close Steam to shutoff mode. I just close the desktop part but it runs in my system tray. For the last 3 days though it simply stops responding at times and a little spinning busy icon appears top right. Sometimes it will stop after I search for a game but this time its when I opened it it was already frozen. Only fix is to right click it in the tray and close. Then reopen. I say tray but what I mean is the thing in the bottom right where all running icons are grouped.

Task manager, kill Steam process tree. Restart Steam. It probably needs to update.

Re: Steams been freezing up on me
I've found that it's always been better to right click the icon in the tray to close it before a shutdown, otherwise it can cause problems. Before my upgrade, I would get Steam freezes too, but then I had something going on with my system overall.

Re: Steams been freezing up on me
I once had steam go wonky on me while playing MPQ and it basically forgot how to communicate with my online profile for storage of game data and I had to wipe an entire steam directory (not the games. I want to say clientregistry.blob but I don't trust my memory) to reinstall the client. Not saying it will work for you but helped my different steam problem.
This looks like the cleanest way to reinstall while keeping all you apps as is.

Finally, on a similar note Steam has been locking up my Internet when I exit games for 30 or 40 seconds lately. The last update is not getting along with my slow ass internet connection or my computer.
