Tablet with slow wifi

Post by stessier »

I have a Samsung Tab A 10.1 (model T-580) from 2016. Recently it's started experiencing really slow wifi. Running speed tests with it I get anywhere from 0.88 to 75 mbps. Rarely I will find it as high as 150 mbps. This is the only device having the problem. My wired connections are fine showing a steady 200-215 mbps and our two Pixel 2s are also connecting at 200+. We are connecting through an Netgear R6400 (AC 1750 Dual Band) router. I get the same flaky performance no matter where I test (right next to the device, in the next room, etc.).

Any idea what might be going on? Could the tablet's wireless be slowing failing?

Is the slow speed happening just when you are downloading something or just loading websites in browser or across the board?

You can try wiping the cache and see if that helps (it doesn't delete any apps or personal data).

Check for a firmware update too.

Slow speeds are across the board. It can be working fine one minute (streaming a movie, watching Youtube, or browsing a site) and the next it is like I moved to Smoove's house.

I'll try wiping the cache when I get home.

I'll check, but this is Samsung. I put the odds very, very low that there is anything new. :)

Does turning it off and back on again work for Android? I swear it fixes 100% of our Apple device connection issues.

Turning a device off and on again works for most computing devices because of their nature and what a reset does. Windows has been mock worthy for needing it far too often.

So yes, rebooting does work with android.

That said, this problem sounds brutal to diagnose.

Could be location in house.
Could be failing antenna.
Could be something software related.
Could be... like a billion things.

And it hasn't happened since that day. Everything has been fine.

Also, it looked like I had cleared the cache in my original troubleshooting. Go me.
