Virus forced format and reinstall

As I type this my pc is working to redo windows. I'm on my tablet so autocorrect be and spelling errors will just have to stay.
I was sitting there at the pc surfing regular sites yes...when I see a pop up that misadventures says it blocked something. Then I see more stuff popping up. I dropped the browser and see icons on my desktop...like 5 or 6 ...warframe, crossout, adult dating and cra p o never heard off. Misadventures of Windows security essentials wants to reboot to clear it. I do and that was the last time I could see windows.

I've rebooted and it hangs at loading windows. I decide to simply load a backup image and get into safe mode. If course it won't let me load a backup in safe mode and I can't get into windows.

I decide f suck it iv e been considering a format and reinstall so I'll do that. I came my boot order to DVD first and toss my son 7 disc in.....but in the start for that both my no tech keyboard and mouse are deas. After giving up on them 30 min later i plug in my 10 year old mouse and it works fine...of fuckin g course.

So now here I sit waiting on the install to get humming...if it does. Then I'm kill off all my games drive to. Mwah remove the old mechanical drives for the help of it.

This is all dependant if win 7 installs and the virus isn't hiding on another drive.

Wish me luck...should be all we don e by midnight

Ive got it working again but nothing is installed yet. I cant even get Nvidia Geforce Experience to install or drivers. keeps failing. Im guessing Ill have to install all the windows updates first. In doing so I hope I dont get that silly Win 10 nag stuff.

Ahh the fun stuff. I had about 8 game services installed but rememer only Steam right now. Had 15 games but only need the 3 or so I was playing. Guess that will save me speed and space. Im trying to recall all the apps and drivers...sound, video, defraggler, ccleaner...no telling what Ill forget to reinstall. I had to dig out an old mouse and old keyboard just to install windows. need all that software back too come to think of it.

Quicky.....I had RAPID mode turned ON for my C drive SSD with the OS on it. Would it be best to keep it that way or turn it on on the gaming SSD instead? It can only be on on one at a time.

As someone who's expecting to receive a brand-new PC next week, that's a big +1 from me.

I could swear someone was talking about dreading a total reinstall or a format or something recently and I was mentioning how it was the software updates that take all day. And here I am..started at 3pm or near bouts and now its 10 pm and its still doing windows updates. Though I think Im close.

Have come across my first weirdness. Installed Uplay for Ubisoft games and it shows I own none when I do in fact own a few. My guess is I used the wrong account somehow but not sure. Will need to figure this one out.

Got Ubi working. I was logged in with an old unused account and not my main. Trouble is now my main is tied to an old email that I cant access. I can log in fine and play my games but if Ubi emails me Ill never know it.

Well damn. Reinstalled Google Earth and even trying both accounts there are NO markers at all on the map. I had at least 100. Well thats totally worthless to me now.

Daehawk, I'm not saying, I'm just saying... now that you have Windows up and running again, you may want to re-evaluate the wisdom of refusing to install Windows updates.

Either way, I STRONGLY recommend you download a reliable free bootable antivirus, e.g. Dr.Web LiveDisk. This will allow you to disinfect your system from a bootable USB flash drive or DVD if and when malware renders your OS non-bootable.

Once you have all your programs and other essentials reinstalled, I would also recommend using free drive cloning software -- e.g. AOMEI Backupper -- to create a backup 'system image' of your entire OS drive. Restoring from a cloned drive image will greatly speed up and simplify the process of reinstalling Windows -- and all other programs installed and located on your OS drive -- if and when you need to do so in future. You can also use it to create bootable rescue media that provides the ability to restore, mount, browse, and recover files and folders from an existing image even if you're unable to get into Windows.

To quote Ben Franklin's old axiom, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

Ive installed all updates now and its fully up to date for Win 7.

Ill look at the clone stuff and usb boot antivirus. That was one problem I had. I could only get into safe mode and I could not load the image from safe mode. So was pretty useless.

If I could change 2 things they would be.....

1. My documents folder on C drive. Holy shit I forgot all about it! I had recipes, old Christmas lists, tons of stuff I wanted to keep. I always meant to back it up when I formatted and I JUST NOW remembered it when I went to look at something it in. OMG. &&^%%**(

2. My bookmarks. Ya I had too many but some were useful or fun and such. I thought at the time Id just redo them. But Im sitting here and I cant remember them. Just now I went to click the one right after OO but of course its not there and I dont even remember what it was. It was just a daily check in site. And I cant remember what it was.
