Reviving a dead 360 controller battery

So, I've got a dead rechargeable 360 controller battery that won't charge. I snap it into the charging stand and the light is red for a tick then goes green. I checked and found two "tricks" online to reset them so they charge again:

1) Pop it in and back out of the charger over and over and over (and over) until it stays red.
2) Short out contacts 2&5 to drain, then play the 1&5, 2&6 game to reset the logic circuit.

Neither one works. The best #2 does is get me a red light for maybe two seconds before it goes to green, even after shorting it overnight. I was planning on just pitching it before I found the tricks online, now I wondering if any of you have managed to revive one via some other method?

Okay. Don't need a cable and have other batteries, just wondering if this one can be saved.

You have to break it apart and test the cells inside. If the cells inside are toast, then not worth the effort.

Generally, once a rechargeable battery stops charging, it's done. There is a finite number of charge cycles, which Is fewer for older rechargeable batteries.

Generally, yes. But these were supposed to be special, dammit!
