TL;DR recommendations are
1) Facetime
2) Facebook Messenger Lite
3) Whatsapp
4) Oscar Senior -- sort of senior wellness digital app https://www.oscarsenior.com/for-families price seems reasonable at a few bucks per person a month. (3 person family plan is $9 a month or 99 for a year) if you don't like the video chat only option.

Re: Video Chat for People who Struggle with Tech
I had to deal with a mobile phone and video chat for the first time in my life yesterday. I felt like an old geezer new to tech....and Im a tech nut ...have been since I was little. Was humbling. Most people think automatically you own a Apple product and have facetime. I hate Apple. So me and my doctor both had to install and figure out Skype. After a while we got it and all went well. but man what a hassle.

No one knows this stuff from birth. It takes time and experience, just like any other skill. And this tech is still in its awkward teen years.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

I just opened a chat in there, took 5 seconds. Just in the browser. I even tried under Linux as Windows doesn't recognise a PS3-Cam, no problem.

Gaming? Nope, I'm into Bitwig.

Re: Video Chat for People who Struggle with Tech
The article doesn't even mention Google Duo, which I've found to be great. I don't have an iPhone so I can't FaceTime, but those without Android can still use Duo. It's simple enough that my parents figured it out on their iPhones without any issues. I think it's also cleaner and simpler than Skype.
That's my purse! I don't know you!
