I can't risk finding something that I want in the process. It's time to shut 'er down. The Post-Christmas Buying Orgy has finally come to a close today with my final purchases from Steam (picked up the other two Splinter Cell games). It looks like I picked up 22 games/expansions for a shade under $100, and 10 MP3 albums (totaling 681 tracks) for $36. I have problems. But at least I have a lot more digital entertainment this year to help me cope. :)

I'm so confused.

I got another generic "You got a promotional credit" so I figured it was for the one from last weekend where the credit never showed up, but on Amazon it shows me as having $10 in promotional credit. Guess I'll buy another album and see what happens.

Where are you able to check to see this promotional credit? I should have another one, I think, but can't see where to check for it.

Right under "Buy MP3" there is a link that says "Redeem a gift card or promotional code & view balance", click that and there is something that says "Your current gift card and promotion code balance is ".

Ah, silly me. I was trying to look for it in my account information.

I do have one $5 promo to use.

Gah! Too many albums/artists that I want to try. It's a bit overwhelming, actually.

I found 16 on my 1st run through & got pissed that I bought LCD Soundsystem 2 weeks ago...I knew it would be $5 soon enough!

WTF... why did I click that link. I've been there for 3 minutes and bought 3 albums already.....

The Band -- Greatest Hits (Have all their stuff on LP, but nothing digital)
BNL -- All in Good Time
Keane - Night Train

Better not spend more time there tonight, I'm too tired and will spend too much.

Please tell me why The Band is supposedly so great. My brother is a huge fan. So are several people I know. I had listened to a few of their tunes before, and of course knew some of the more popular ones, but I just don't see the quality there. I know the critics loved them at the time, but jesus, they sound like a poor man's version of the Grateful Dead mixed with a little Allman Brothers, but inferior to both by quite a long shot IMHO.

After buying one of their higher rated albums recently, I just shook my head and decided not to try and understand anymore. At first I thought, ok, this SOUNDS terrible, but maybe the Quality here is in the lyrics. Nope. Sound quality or musicianship? Big negator. Has to be songwriting then, not much left? No sir.

Please tell me what it is about them that you think is good or even great? Just curious. Even when I don't like bands that a lot of other people do (Dave Matthews Band for one), I can at least see WHY other people like the band. But I got nothin' here.

I can completely understand your take on them. I just like that style of music (CCR, etc). I got into them through their double live album The Last Waltz, which has a collection of other artists performing with them. Niel Young, Joni Mitchell, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan, etc. It really introduced me to them with a twist. I love "I shall be Released" from that show, I think that's the song that drew me in.

Excellent, I will check that song out. (And fwiw, I like that style too, just not them!)

CeeKay maintains a dedicated thread over at GT documenting the MP3 album of the day, a thread that I watch with interest.

I have a big head, and little arms. I'm just not sure how well this plan was thought through.

Sucks that that site is blocked for me from work. :(

I did purchase ten albums from August's $5 selection. That's pretty close to the average for me for each of the last four month's offerings.

Work somehow does not block twitter, though I'm loathe to make it a part of my daily surf. Thanks for thinking of alternatives for me though. :)

Andrew Bird's Noble Beast was my pick for best album of 2009 — a steal for $5.
