Steam Summer Sale

Postby JetFred » Tue Jul 03, 2012 9:03 pm

Sorry for making this a new thread if this is premature, but I'm a little excited. Codemasters stuff just went all on sale on Steam even though there's no mention on the front yet, and there is already a deep-discount Command & Conquer series midweek sale. I'm hoping this is it, but if it's not, I still wanted to post the Codemasters sale outside of the regular deals thread.

Edit (July 4): Codemasters sale seems to have gone down now, maybe it'll come back up. It was 25% off everything until July 12, and a Codemasters person acknowledged it on Twitter so I wouldn't think it was a mistake.

Where is the summer Steam sale anyway? Aren't we overdue?
It's 107 first team All-Americans.
It's a college football record 60 bowl appearances.
It's 34 bowl victories.
It's 23 Southeastern Conference Championships.
It's 15 National Championships.

At some places they play football. At Alabama we live it.

Rumours on the Steam forums were suggesting it would be mid-July, instead of the usual beginning of July. I am wondering if they are trying to run their sale at a time it won't coincide with everyone else's (Amazon, GamersGate, etc.) sales.

What seems to happen is that STEAM starts their sale and then everyone else matches or beats their prices...so maybe this was an attempt to draw everyone else into the sale first and the unleash it after all the other vendors show their cards. I dunno...but I'm guessing they're rolling around in so much money they can sort of float these types of experiments to see what happens.

I won't complain. I still have a few games I bought at Christmas I haven't played (To say nothing of too many games from much further back). Though right now Endless Space is calling to me and I don't think I could stop myself if it is goes on sale... Even if it will just sit there...

I certainly don't need more games, but I set aside some cash for the sale and I'm gradually using it. I'm no good at waiting.

I'm just hoping for a sale on Dead Rising 2 Off the Record. It never seems to go on sale on steam and there's no freaking way I'm paying 40 bucks for it. You can get it through the Xbox for 20 bucks. Which is still too much. I'm hoping for 10...

They are really dumb at this point. Almost every week Amazon, Gamefly, Gamersgate, etc. are having sales. They are not going to let up. These sales eat away at a gamer's budget. Not to mention the fact that schools are off NOW. Those kids that are gamers (and teachers that are gamers) have already spent their dough on something to play during their time off. Postponing the sale until mid-July (allegedly) is just a bad move.
That being said, I'll probably spend some money if they have offers I can't pass up. I do have a huge backlog as it is, though.

I'm hoping for a sale on Mass Effect 3. The time is ripe for a deep discount on that one. I'd also love to see Max Payne 3 < $30 but I know that's probably unrealistic.

Well, technically Max Payne has already been <$30 at $29.99. I think it was on Amazon, though.

I'm in no rush for the sale. For the last couple of years most of my purchases have been due to sales, not because I specfically wanted a certain game, although there have been exceptions. I think the only think I'm looking forward to getting is Dead Island, but I'd have tor review.

So as far as myself personally, my budget (which really isn't one) is sitting nice and snug in my bank account. If Steam decides to sell me something at a deep discount, I'll be ready. Otherwise, *shrug*. Diablo 3 is eating all of my gaming time, and even if it weren't, I have Warlock, Endless Space, Spore and DarkSpore all sitting around unplayed and patiently waiting. The first two are quality strategy games, so I'm good for months no matter what happens.

Yeah now that I think about it we might as well wait and get the game with the DLC. I imagine I will still be pretty deep in GW2 when BL2 is released.

I waited for the original to drop significantly before picking it up, although it was a bit difficult to wait that long. I'm perfectly willing (I say that now) to wait for the first sale on BL2 before picking it up. That said, if you guys pick it up right away and want to start a group I'll pick it up right away as well.

The buzz on Endless Space does seem great, but Warlock? 70 on Metacritic currently.

I've played the demo, played a little of the retail, and our own thread in PC gaming is fairly positive. Both were had for $20ish dollars as pre-release purchases. It's a quality strategy game, even if some don't find it compelling or triple A material.

Agree. I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of Warlock. I do feel that the full game is still coming though. It may end up being a $40 game when all is said and DLC'd. My only real complaint at the moment is that the DLC is not coming fast enough. :D

I've got over 40 hours in Warlock, which for me is very rare.

I'm imaging that the people who are predicting Thursday for the sale will be right, but it could be today for all we really know.
