How exactly were you going to prevent the scenario I described? Isn't it the case that your karma incremented at Console Gold and at OO? What exactly were you going to do to ensure that you didn't end up entitled to two games for your one? Will every participant do the same?
i already said - i offer a certain game on both forums, my karma goes up by 1 on both forums... if i claim a game on either forum, my karma on both forums goes down by 1 - what makes you think i was doing otherwise? as Aussie77 said, i too thought the final agreement on this issue was 'if you can keep track of it, go ahead and do it'.

EDIT: as for "how would i make sure that everyone else would do the same" - well, how exactly would i go about doing that? i'm not 'everyone else' - i would hope they were honorable as well.

This is pretty much my position on it as well. I am NOT a fan of having people use both lists for this reason but ... I do trust those who use it and willing to give everyone the benefit of the doubt until it's proven to be a bad idea. At which point, who knows what will happen.

Regarding karma, when I started PIFF I never had a vision for it. It was strictly a "take one/offer one" kind of deal. The whole karmic system just evolved from it. I like it however because it allows everyone to make sure that everyone else is on the up and up. Asking everyone to make their claims public is another reason.

I'm definitely open to suggestions for improving the PIFF system. If you'd like to make one however, I'd like to ask that you start a new thread for it. Let's try to get this one back on track. Thanks.

Nothing makes me think that; I don't think it. That's why I asked, in the portion of my message that you quoted, "will every participant do the same" as you do? That's also why I wrote that it isn't about you, but about procedures.
hitbyambulance wrote:EDIT: as for "how would i make sure that everyone else would do the same" - well, how exactly would i go about doing that? i'm not 'everyone else'.
A careful re-reading of my message will help you to see that I never called for you to keep track of what others do. I merely asked whether a convoluted policy is better than no policy.

There is no official connection between CG and OO. They are different boards that are hosting similar community events. If you want to offer a game here and on CG, or GameTradeZone, or Quarter to Three, or in any of a hundred other site in the net, that's fine. They are different boards that have nothing to do with each other. If I have a friend that I find is looking for a game I have listed here, I will take it off my list and give it to him. It will reduce my positive Karma, or I may put up something else instead. Same difference.

I think it is just rather important that you keep track of your plusses on this board. That's all. If you have five games for people here to choose from, don't choose more than five yourself. If you've taken five, make sure that there are five available or sent. What difference, if we trust people, does some other, unrelated site make? It is really just a chance to trade with friends, not a complex set of hard rules and strict policies. Have fun, get rid of some oldies, and get your hands on a few hard-to-find pieces for your collection.

Anyway, to get this back on track, I will add:

~Desert Rats Vs. Afriks Korps (new, still sealed)

~Tzar: Burden of the Crown

~Green Berets (requires Myth II)

...and I removed Earth and Beyond, since I found out it has closed down. That leaves me at +5.

Grundbegriff wrote:Why bother having a karma system at all, then?

BTW: I ask because (by default) I compile the lists of games available here and, for a time at GoneGold, was serving as a clearing house for karma counts.

Those of you who suppose that I miss the point of PIFF or that I care too much about the karma count of others would seem to be ignorant of the history of this thing (whether through timing or inattention).
I've been involved since the inception of PIFF, so I'm not ignorant of the whole thing, despite what you think. I'm trying not to let your typical snobbiness get under my skin, but I think I'm failing.

You asked for opinions and I gave mine. I've felt that way since people started posting "karma". People keeping track of their own karma is cool. Someone calling out someone else who continously claims games but doesn't put any up is cool too. But making guidelines for karma and making rules for the system makes it a trading house, not PIFF.

You ask "why bother having a system at all?" I agree, why indeed? Again, merely my opinions.

Ooo Ooo Ooo... Hey Blackhawk can I get DR vs. AK from you? I'm just about done with Soldiers: Heroes of WWII and I'll need a new vice.

To keep my karmameter level I'll toss up Battlefield 1942 + Road to Rome. CD's and Manuals only. No boxes.

You can PM me, or email me @ grobicheau{at}gmail{dot}com

I've removed my remaining freebies to post over on ConsoleGold. Looks like that site has more traffic, so maybe I'll be more likely to get rid of them there.

Ok, let me jump in here. I do have these at CG as well, but would rather offer them up at both sites than decide which is more worth it:

Diablo 2 (complete)
Black and White (cd only)
Law and Order Dead on the Money (j/case and manual)
Risk (sleeve/manual)
Sims (cd and manual)
Sims Livin' Large (cd only)
Sims House Party (cd only)
Devastation (complete)
Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness (cds only)
Sim City 3000 Unlimited (cd only)
You Don't Know Jack (cd only)
Age of Empires Gold Edition (cd only)
Age of Empires 2 Age of Kings (cd only)
Age of Empires 2 Conqueroers expansion (cd only)

God, Kaigen, I have been so terrible about sending off that Freebie. I have your info, and I will send it as soon as possible. I just need to buy some CD mailers (Big Lots, here I come!) and I'll send it off.

I'm so damn irresponsible sometimes. :P

I have two games to give away:

Morrowind claimed by Kelric
Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield (cds, no box - came free with sound card)
Half-Life GotY Edition (CDs only)

Karma +1
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range

A general FYI - the two games I had to be shipped out are going out this morning (RM9 and AoO), and the two feedbacks I owed people (HBA and Grundbegriff) have been given. My wife had surgery (nothing major, but disabling) over the holidays, so everything has been beyond chaotic. My apologies to the four involved.

Absolutely not a problem. It's a collector's piece that I'm waiting for, not something that I'm dying to play this instant. It's been 9 years since release, a few more weeks isn't a problem. :)

This will leave me at -1, which I hope to address as soon as I get home.
