if you tell the checkout clerk at the grocery store to charge the exact amount to that card, you can put the balance on your normal card (or cash).

be sure to use a gamepad (or steering wheel, if you have one) !!! i wouldn't play this game on the keyboard; it'll make a huge difference in the fun factor.

Batman played pretty darn well with a Keyboard and a mouse. Controller is better but I was impressed at how well they pulled it off. Great game that I need to get back to and finish. Story of my life.

I think he was referring to Flatout, right?
I don't have a gamepad, but it might not be a bad idea to have one anyway. This isn't the thread for recommendations on a good one to get though, but I did find this one about the 360 gamepad. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=70500&start=0 Looks like a good place to start.

I actually prefer Batman w/keyboard + mouse.

yeah, i meant FlatOut. I used the original Xbox controller with it, but the 360 one is just as good (or better).

I have no problem with m+kb for Batman either. It's very well implemented, which means any other console port that couldn't do it shows how they are just lazy ports.

The only time I found the mouse and keyboard frustrating in Batman was the Poison Ivy fight. But then again, I found everything about that fight frustrating.

Does anyone know if NWN2 runs on Windows 7 64-bit? I have the original discs, but I thought that you were hosed on Win7, although it might have been an installer issue (which Steam would resolve). I don't know.

I recently had to rebuild my computer after losing a hard drive and I'm running windows 7 64 bit. Install NWN2...but don't try to play it until after you install the expansion packs. One of the updates included with an expansion addresses the problem with windows 7 64 bit.

Are you talking about installing the original discs? I only have the base game I think on disc. The Steam version includes the two expansion packs (are they separate installs?). Also, can you run the toolset?

Also - am I reading things right? They released this game on Steam today for the first time?

It lists Windows 7 under the recommended specs. Not sure if I want to pay $10 to find this out.

I was installing from the discs, but I mentioned the expansions because the Steam version includes them. I'm not sure how they packaged it, but I'm sure that the patch you need (i believe it's patch 7127) is included either in the Steam version of the base game or with one of the expansions.

In other words, I'm pretty confident you won't have any trouble.

Gamersgate has added some more games to their sale, including the king arthur: The Saxons DLC. I wonder what the likelyhood of that working on the steam version of King Arthur would be? (Ive had no problem installing, for example, one of the sims expansions on the retail version of the sims 3)

The thing about this year's sale....

Spoiler:
It's got me wanting to play the games I bought at last year's sale :). I actually started the Witcher last night, after staring at it in my Steam queue for a year. It's pretty fun so far, though I'm still just in the tutorial area still.

My Steam backlog is epic now. I don't think I'll end up grabbing anything else. My haul so far...

Fallout 3 GOTY
Fallout 3: Vegas
Mass Effect 1
Mass Effect 2

With just those 4 games I could be occupied for a long time.

I dunno. I busted through ME1 and 2 back to back in a bit over a month last January. Of course, the Fallouts are a different story. Better buy the Baldur's Gates and Planescape as well, just to be sure you don't run out.

Since I got scooped, I'll just leave the Crysis breakdown.

I'm going to grudgingly pick up Dirt2.

I took a pass on it in an earlier sale because of GamesforWindowsLive, but I already broke the "don't buy any more games that use that" rule when I got Batman a few days ago. Plus Dirt2 is only $4.99!
Also, I got Grid last year at this time and had fun with it... and to be honest, hitbyambulance's FlatOut just isn't doing it for me. I got what I payed for on that one. :)

It is a little fun though, so you only owe me $0.33 hitbyambluance.

I don't know.
On the one hand, I like this game. I've had a lot of fun with it.
On the other, I've never finished it because it turns into a grind that wears me out until the thought of even playing it is too exhausting.

Crush: $1.09

That game would actually be called "Rush". It's a puzzle game by the makers of Toki Tori (which I loved). Rush doesn't have the charm of Toki Tori. It deals with colored blocks finding a path to their color coded finish point. I completed all the easy puzzles and about half the medium puzzles before taking a break from it. I plan to return to it, but some of the medium puzzles have a trial and error approach to getting the timing right as different paths cross each other. Still there's enough going for it, that fans of puzzle games should take a look and consider for themselves if it's worth buying for slightly over a buck.

And also. Like I said before, most popular SimCity is Sim City 2000. It was far more accessible than Sim City 4. I like number 4 but it never came close to the fantastic gameplay of 2000.

Marcus

is this the general feeling? maybe i should make a city builder poll thread? nah... poll limited to 10 and there are so many out there that could be voted on.

Maxis and Electronic Arts have released a total of three patches that improve or fix issues discovered in the original versions of SC4 and Rush Hour (two for the original SC4 and one for Rush Hour). Among other things, the patches contain performance improvements for larger cities and a variety of minor bug fixes. The two pre-Rush Hour patches each fixed errors in the game code that, while not impeding actual gameplay, were previously preventing nearly a third of the Maxis-designed buildings from ever appearing in the game. The first patch fixed the so-called "Houston Tileset Bug" which was leaving one of the game's three tilesets, a collection of contemporary Houston-inspired buildings, completely out of the rotation, meaning that the only buildings from that tileset ever to appear were several smaller variations shared by all three of the game's original tilesets. With the introduction of that patch, it rapidly became apparent that there was another underlying bug that was preventing approximately two dozen of the game's largest buildings from appearing. This issue was fixed in the second patch.[16]

Although not necessarily a "bug", players often complained about the unrealistic pathfinding mechanism; it would often find the shortest route but not the fastest,[17] which often left mass transit and highways relatively unused. Many players made mods to attempt to rectify the issue.

so i assume if pathfinding was left to player mods to fix they did not fix it in a patch?

I had kind of the same reaction to King's Bounty. I think a very helpful tip to those starting out is to make full use of the map's note-taking abilities to document every location and person of interest, as you'll be tasked with visiting them later, sometimes much later, in which case you'll forget where they were and end up spending hours cruising the game world looking for them.

Haven't played the follow-ups, so I don't know if they addressed that.
