JetFred wrote: Mon Dec 18, 2017 3:04 pm Just crap is on sale now since the sale is this week. Question, though...

Is Sword Coast Legends worth buying for $5 for the single player before Steam takes it down after Christmas? Anything I look at online is a ton of babies spitting at each other like the rest of the internet.
61 on Metacritic? oof. This is right in my wheelhouse, but pass.

61 to ME, means = this is not even worth your time installing, much less paying for at a low, low price, then playing a little.

Edit: OK, just watched the videos. Wow. Even with that score, I might have to try it. Some of my respected review sites called it "boring, uninteresting half finished and uninspired", which is a pretty big blow.

Also damning:
"You won’t find the fast-paced action of Diablo, or the tactical challenge of Dragon Age: Origins or Pillars of Eternity. Whatever you are looking for, you will probably find it somewhere else in a better game that you already own."

And: "Indifference. You will feel absolutely nothing when playing Sword Coast Legends. There are a lot of elements that make a good RPG, but they do not meld into a coherent whole."

Maybe the fact that I only care about the single player campaign, and am COMPLETELY fine with old school mechanics (BG) and graphics, means that this title would be ok for someone in my niche (actually the graphics look great in the videos).

I feel the same way, but add in the completionist in me who is tempted by the publishing deal ending so that it is leaving Steam. I think much of the criticism comes from the DM aspect being not really any better than NWN and I couldn't care less about that.

Right. One of us should definitely jump on this and let the other know how it is! Actually, might be better to wait until the Christmas sale proper starts, no? Maybe it will be 75% off.

I think they are pitching this as the last deal, but since it ends on Christmas, I suppose it can't hurt to wait a few days to see. But you know me well enough to know what will happen. I'll buy it with card credit and not actually play it, so that's no help to you.

I've played it and had fun for a few hours but not enough fun to finish it. If that helps any at all.

Thanks, yes - that helps me pass. Too much other great stuff in backlog for mediocrity.

I had seen this before but hadn't really thought about getting it. There is apparently not a thread in the PC Games forum. I just went back to the store page and watched the three videos. The last two videos really explain how the gameplay works and it actually looks kind of interesting. Anyone have some input on the game?

It's a fun little game. I thought it was worth it for $19.99 but it's even harder to resist now that it's over $90.

It was actually solid during the Thanksgiving sale. I suspect the voting for the awards will be glitchy and it might take ~30 minutes for the prices to update, but I think it might actually be ready to go by 1:30 or so.

I will say that having STEAM credit in your wallet is so much better than trying to use a credit card during the high-volume sales times - it just works because there's not authentication necessary. Then again, the days of timed deals and needing to process surge requests are long gone.

Good luck everyone. Hopefully you can find something you like.

Starting to choke, but it looks like voting and queue for cards, and highlighted deals in the same format as the last couple of big sales.

Discounts updating...

While it doesn't help if you have money sitting in your STEAM wallet, word on the street is that Amazon Digital will be having their sale next Friday (12/29). While their prices on games can be mixed, they usually are rather competitive and sometimes even better than STEAM with their prices on AAA titles (that activate with STEAM codes).

Anyway, with the prices for this sale remaining static, if you have some patience to wait, next Friday might have better deals on a few bigger titles.

Pretty underwhelmed. In the Autumn Sale every single game in my wishlist was on sale. I didn't buy anything then because I wasn't going to play anything right away and I am trying not to buy things if I am not going to play them right away. Also, my thinking was - if the Autumn Sale is this great, the winter sale will be awesome! WRONG. Oh well...

I'm confused because I'm pretty sure 95% of the STEAM catalog is on sale and prices seem nearly identical to the Autumn sale, as far as I can tell. They've been nearly identical for a few years now.

Yeah, Steam has devolved into two states: big sale and normal. These things aren't nearly as exiting as they used to be.

So when I looked at Steam earlier it was just after the sale had started (they had just updated their front page). I just took another look and now things much more in line with what I saw in the Autumn sale. I guess they hadn't fully updated all the discounted prices yet. Looks much better now.

Lots of sales are better if you buy things that complete a bundle, if they are in a bundle that is reduced due to what you own (not all work this way). For example, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is on a good sale for $9, but since I owned every other Deus Ex game, I could buy the bundle where I got Mankind Divided AND all the DLC for $9, a much better deal to me. Be sure to check each page for the cheapest option you've got.

Are you looking for the first game on pc? Ill keep an eye open for it during the holiday if so.

Wish I could give you my old copy. I found I have a strong dislike for those type games right after trying it.

What's the latest hotness this winter? I received some steam money and to be honest, there isn't much jumping out at me. I do have 1 game in mind, but even the items on my wishlist are more "nice to haves" rather than "must own".

Recommendations? I'm sort of looking for a main game, rather than cute indie games (which I also like, just not at the moment).
