I recently started a backlog clean-up. Nothing too aggressive, I just started playing titles I'd never touched (starting with shortest to beat) and if they grabbed me fine. If they didn't, I threw them in an Archived category.

I actually wound up finishing 3-4 games in the last week, and trying/archiving 5 or 6 more. Slow but steady progress.

I'm going to start cutting back on the bundles as well, as that is where the vast majority of my library bloat has come from.

I picked up the DLC I didn't have for ATS a couple of weeks ago, forgetting that the Summer Sale was upcoming . Washington is very pretty and there are really nice touches there.

I picked up Megaquarium at 35% off. I'd gotten the previous game, Big Pharma, from this developer and thought it was pretty good, so when Megaquarium was announced I started following the newsfeed. When it was released out of Early Access I still waited, but the reviews have been pretty good and the developer has been very active in taking feedback from the community and making timely updates. And Steam Workshop support is in beta, so I took the leap.

This is a tycoon game, but on the light side. Nothing too heavy duty, not really even any spreadsheets other than a simple profit/loss chart. You build tanks and supply the associated support equipment, hire staff, put in fish and then with the Science, Prestige and Ecology points you earn you can unlock more fish, equipment, decorations, that sort of thing.

I'm going to start a thread over on the video games forum for those who might be interested.

I came out of the Steam sale spending more money than I usually spend, but on only two games - Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2. I'm greatly enjoying playing through 1 though, so I don't feel bad. Usually I just buy the games and never play them. :D

I've played 911 Operator and it's a pretty interesting way of making a "spinning plates" game. Basically, you have limited amount of fire engines, police, and ambulances on standby. And during your "shift", you have to send out the resources to where they're needed, as well as give appropriate ABCD responses to emergency calls, some are comical (can you find my cat) to deadly serious (bomb threats, choking, etc.) You get points for responding to every incident, and giving the right response to callers, while penalized for missing incidents, taking too long (things can escalate), or giving the wrong response (both in over or under dealing the situation, like sending an ambulance when the guy's just hung over). Incidents also are often quite different. An argument can escalate into a large fight that requires multiple police vehicles responding, and require a van or multiple police vehicles to transport the perps to jail. But obviously a van doesn't move as fast as regular police cars. Motorcycles respond the fastest, but they can't carry prisoners. You can give your officers additional equipment bought with your budget (based on your performance) and/or requisition additional vehicles and/or officers as you go through multiple shifts. Every incident is a little different. A fire can turn into a tense casualty situation requiring ambulances, or turn into a hostage situation requiring police presence. All the city maps are *somewhat* based on real streets of the city so if you know those cities, you'll get a kick out of real street names called out. The DLCs are optional, but they add more incident types, vehicles types, and so on.

I've been wondering if it is worth dipping my toes into. Not quite sure if I'm up to a "spinning plates" game, which by the way is a great analogy :D

I just had to post the below since it is appropriate to what you mentioned. It is from Longboat Key News website, LBK being a very well off community on the barrier island just to the west of Sarasota, FL. This is a real police report summary, as documented on the On Patrol Longboat Key – Week ending July 19, 2019
Bathroom sounds

4:44 a.m.

Officer Bergeron responded to Gunwale Lane in regard to a suspicious noise emanating from the complainant’s bathroom. Upon his arrival, Officer Bergeron met with the complainant who escorted him to the master bath. The noise was emanating from the toilet tank. Officer Bergeron lifted the tank lid and was able to hear the noise. Officer Bergeron flushed the toilet and the noise stopped. Nothing further.

You can play at normal speed and only graduate to larger cities when you feel like it. There are over a dozen cities to choose from. It *can* get tense, esp. when you have a serial bomber or serial arsonist on the loose (advanced scenarios), but if you're just dealing with normal stuff like heart attack, speeding tickets, kitchen fire, it's pretty simple. At that price, I'd say give it a try.

Over-respond the heck out of the situation if you can. Instead of sending just one fire truck, send three. Need one cop? Send three. See a house fire? Send fire truck AND ambulance. Overwhelming response speeds up resolution time (things resolve a lot faster if you have overwhelming presence on the scene). Obviously, it had to be the right type(s).

Read the incident, which tells you how much capacity of each is needed. A single cop car can handle 2 perps, so if it's a large fight, you can wait for the slow van to show up, or you can send two cruisers.

If you follow common sense, you should do achieve at least 85% rating, if not better, as long as you don't miss any calls. The trick is to recognize the non-emergency situations that try to hog the 911 line. Some examples include:
  • Can you help with my homework? (No, and no cops need to show up)
  • Your car was stolen... Last week? (Ignore the bluster, no cops needed)
  • You've had your stomach ache for a week, and you want ambulance now? (Just tell him to go to the doctor)
  • You butt-dialed 911, is that right? (no need to send a cop to check it, if he said he did butt-dial)
But there are minor variations on these that you can't take a call for granted. Car stolen could be "this morning", but it's STILL not an emergency. But if the guy saw his car being driven away, then it warrants an immediate dispatch. Stomach ache that just suddenly started an hour ago and "can't feel anything else" probably needs an ambulance. And the silent call and hang-up could be anything from butt-dial to hostages situation and more.

Yeah, in just a short play time, I've already seen the silent call be nothing and the silent call be terrorists leading to a shootout.
