Nice. Haven't seen anything go as low as 5 bucks in a long while, and Mad Max is definitely worth 5 bucks.

I've done a couple of free weekends of R6:Siege and I keep realizing that I have become very, very bad at these kinds of game, with my slow reactions and my poor aiming. I wish they would create a version that wasn't just a solo tango hunt, but something that gave me four AI companions to face off against five AI baddies. Oh well

I want to try it so bad but I dont bother with the free time. I suck and it takes me a while to learn the maps. The people it throws you in with have lived in the game for a year and will toss a nade around a certain spot or shoot a spot to kill you not even seeing you. Then they bitch that you suck and dont know the map. Makes me simply want to find their address and take a ballbat to them. So I skip it all.

If you are willing to do PvE, then there are a number of us that know the maps and would likely be willing to jump in a game.

Now, if you only want to do PvP, then you are likely out of luck. Blackhawk dabbles in PvP (or did), I'm not sure if anyone else does.

Not in months. We largely moved on to Vermintide 2 and GTA Online.

Yeah, some of those missions are total deathtraps. I did a couple mission map walkthrus, but I got bored and never did the rest of them.

Played both to death, including the mods.

While you can also get it for free on GOG, Unreal Gold is likewise available for free on Steam right now. There is no mention whether this is temporary or permanent.

A comment or two on the steam page referenced an "OldUnrealPatch" (community patch) ... that can be found HERE .. Not entirely sure if it works on the steam version

version 227i .. with and without "Return To Napali" .. UnrealGold is "with"

... Steam is having a "Spring Cleaning Event" .. it includes earning a Badge .. and playing a list of free games
Spoiler:

Spring Cleaning. That wonderful time of year where people go through their closets to make space, and in doing so discover forgotten gems lost to the bottom of plastic storage totes. But why should the joy of rediscovering a kitschy t-shirt, or a well-hidden holiday gift, be limited to cleaning our homes? With so many wonderful games out there it’s easy to have a backlog of titles that you always intended to go play, but for whatever reason never got around to… and the Steam Spring Cleaning Event is the time to change that. By diving into your Steam Library and playing games that you haven’t looked at in a while (or at all), you can unlock and level up the new Spring Cleaning badge. But this event isn’t just for those with a hefty backlog of titles to work through… as we said earlier, Spring Cleaning is a time of delightful surprises and so in that spirit the following games will be available to play FREE for the duration of the event (May 24th -May 28th)

Don’t Starve Together
Dead by Daylight
Cities: Skylines
Tyranny
Borderlands 2
Castle Crashers
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
Left 4 Dead 2
Dirt 4

It’s a great time for games, so enjoy the weekend exploring Steam and finding a new classic to add to your all-time favorite list.

I ended up a 'mystery item' that suggests that it will be of use in a future sale.

My kids are doing it right now. Poor C - his first Steam game was Rift, so he's got a huge download.

I have a couple USB drives (2 TB) for storage .. I usually zip the steam game folder and store it before telling Steam to uninstall ... any game I "might" want to play again, but especially a BIG download title

as you probably know, steam checks for existing files before downloading

I grabbed Black Desert Online. I know it's a grind-fest but I was in the mood for an old-school MMO after reminiscing about my old EverQuest days. For $5, worth messing around in. I enjoyed my time with it last night, and the combat is interesting.

Yeah, I saw that pop up in my feed and was wondering the same thing. The reviews aren't kind and I certainly don't need another game to not-play, but gigantic open-world exploration style gaming is my kryptonite.

Can't speak from experience, but I read a few articles before purchasing from people who successfully soloed it. There are two major criticisms I have found:

1. Steep learning curve. Have not run into this yet because the tutorial is very hand-holdy, but I can see where combat could take some getting used to. It's real time, so there's a lot of dodging and firing off special attacks via key combinations. There does appear to be a LOT going on here that I haven't scratched the surface of (e.g. crafting, dialogue trees that only unlock with experience, etc).

2. Apparently after you hit a certain level, the game starts to get pay-walled by virtue of it taking so long to level without pay-for-play boosts and gear. This seems to be where most of the negative reviews come from. Again, for $5 I don't really care. I'll play up to that point and ditch it if I get bored.
