[Amazon Digital] Ongoing Sales

Post by Smoove_B »

There's something like 1500 games on sale, up to 80% off. Feel free to post your findings and I'll update it. It also looks like there will be timed sales as well, only good for a few days. I'm nearly certain what I've listed here goes for the full sale.

Dark Souls $7.49
Bioshock 1+2 $4.99
Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY $4.99
Batman Arkham City GOTY $7.99
Company of Heroes GOTY $4.99
Crusader Kings Pack - Base game +all 21 DLC $14.99 (DLC seems to be on sale as well for $0.99-$3.99)
Dawn of War Gold $4.99
Dead Island GOTY $4.99
Firaxis Complete Pack $19.99 (Civ IV, Civ V, XCOM)
LEGO Batman $4.99
LEGO Batman 2 $7.49
LEGO Lord of the Rings $7.49
Mark of the Ninja $3.75
Metro 2033 $4.99
Poker Night at the Inventory $2.49
Saints Row 3 $9.99 (DLC on sale too)
Saints Row 3- The Full Package $12.49
Space Pirates and Zombies $2.99
The Walking Dead $9.99

6/13 Updated title to reflect new deals

This could get ugly. It's like a pre-Steam Summer Sale.

Note on Dead Island - you can get the GOTY edition for $4.99. Which includes a couple of DLCs and a weapon blueprint. For a buck and change more it's probably worth it.

I presume if a game on Amazon says "Steam client required to activate," then I can just enter my code into Steam and download right from there instead of from Amazon?

Yeah, once you buy the game from Amazon you go to your "digital locker", retrieve the key and plug that into STEAM. I've never had a problem. Ever.

Also of note:
Purchase any Rockstar Games PC Download between now and May 28 and get a $5 Rockstar Games credit.
Download 16 Bit Arena for free ($9.99 value).
I assume that Rockstar deal applies to sale games.

Is Risen 2 a good buy at $7.50? I really enjoyed Risen but if there was any positive buzz at all for the sequel, I seem to have missed it.

Somewhere buried in there is a Majesty pack with Warlock + DLC, both Majesty games, and Defenders of Ardania + DLC for $10.

I don't suppose anyone is buying the FEAR pack and doesn't need the code for FEAR 1? I have the disks, but since it's three separate installs, I may pay Amazon the $2.50 just to put it in Steam. On the other hand, if the key is worthless to someone, I always end up with keys for random stuff I could throw your way in exchange.

I bought both Risen and Risen 2 but don't see them getting played until about 2016...let us know what you think if you dive in first!

I enjoyed my first play through a lot. Tried to get the GF to bite so that we could play together. But she just isn't interested. :(

But I did get her to try Borderlands 2. So that's something at least. Otherwise she just plays WoW all the time. And I've lost all desire to play WoW these days.

3 hours in and it definitely feels like Gothic/Risen with a pirate veneer, which is fine by me. For some reason, I am powerless to resist this series...

XCOM requires STEAM, so when you purchase the game just go to your "digital locker" and get the key -- you can copy/paste it right into the STEAM client and begin downloading. I've never ever had an issue.

I think I have reached that point.

I was looking through my games over the weekend trying to determine which one to play next and I came across a few titles that I have no recollection of ever buying but there they sit in my queue. Why did I buy that and will I ever play it?

I may have to pick up The Testament of Sherlock Holmes for $9.99. I've really heard nothing but good things (with the negatives usually being about the high difficulty, which I see as a plus). What's sad is I know it will be cheaper by the time I actually play it.

I currently have 101 Steam games. 59 of those are classified as Finished/Archived. That leaves 42 games currently in my backlog. I need help.

Agreed.

What the hell, YK? You trying to shame us with your puny numbers?

I bet you're one of those poker players that shows 4 aces and a king and after an arduous round of betting, says coyly "all I got are these four cards with an "A" at the top. That's not good, is it?"

I don't know about that. The Steam sales have mostly been re-hashes lately. Good for filling out holes and picking up DLC, but not quite the Defcon 1 wallet alert state that it used to be.

The trading card stuff is kind of fun (you can get some fun things by creating badges) but when you think about it it seems like a blatant cash grab. Here's why:

Each game will only drop a certain amount of cards, half of the total or less. Cards only drop one time per person. That means, say you have 2 friends who play Half-Life 2 and each happens to get the 4 cards the other needs. One can gift those cards to the other, giving one person a free badge. Guy #2 can now never get the Half-Life 2 badge unless he either 1) buys cards, which is money for Steam or 2) trades away cards from another game, meaning he can't get the badge for that game unless he buys them, meaning money for Steam. There is scarcity of cards built into the system - so much that at most half the total Steam population can get the badge for any given game, and since you can build the same badge more than once, the reality is probably less than half. Meaning if people are interested in badges, card prices will go up, meaning more money for Steam.

On the other hand, people may realize this and just forget about it. But I'm betting on the former.

There will be plenty of people like me who don't give a damn and will give the cards to friends that do give a damn freely. Despite having about 4x the steam games as that slacker YK, none of the community features of steam mean anything to me and this is another to add to the list.
