Breaking news...one of the three accounts in my house got card drops tonight without the two-hour delay. Not sure yet if it's a fluke.

I was going to post this last week but I didn't think anyone cared. The last three games I played (Divinity Original Sin, Luftrausers and Forests of Doom) dropped their first cards at the 1.8 hour mark.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

If it's just a change from a 2 hour minimum drop rate to 1.8 hrs, then yeah, don't care...but I thought JF was hinting they might be getting rid of the minimum time requirement completely (like it was previously).

I meant within 45 minutes. It happened to two games that were running at the same time to get the counters up to 2 hours. I'm trying some more but it looks like I can't reproduce it.

I wonder if it's going to a developer's choice system or something like that. I'm still not seeing it in other games.

Haven't seen the second drop yet and I'm at 1.5 hours in BLOPS 3. I'm guessing there have been some tweaks to the system and there's weird stuff going on.

Glorkian Warrior just dropped all cards with no initial delay. That was in my son's account. Maybe it's based on account history of refund requests.

I keep thinking that maybe in lieu of their newly announced sale pricing structure, maybe as a way to boost interest they're going to start pumping out Series 2 trading cards? I dunno. I really don't have any idea how successful this trading card program is for STEAM or the developers. I know that the guys I LAN game with have dozens of games that generate cards and inventories filled with them, sitting completely unused. I can understand not being interested in the badges. I can't understand not wanting free money.

I'm not entirely sure what's going on in the market. If you are using Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator, you "save 5%-33%" on community market purchases. Of course it would be ridiculous if they reduced the net credit to the seller from sales of everyone's posted items, so they reduced the paid price by reducing the transaction fee. For example, I had some crappy cards posted for $0.04 each ($0.02 net to me after the $0.02 fee). They are now priced $0.03 each ($0.02 net to me after the $0.01 fee). What I don't understand is what this did to the buy and sell orders. What should have happened is that a lot of posted items $0.01 away from the highest buy order should have immediately sold. I didn't have enough pending items to really be sure if that happened. I was saving about 6 pages of cards to sell during the sale because more Steam traffic tends to drive card prices up by a few cents each. So now I'm posting cards by setting the paid price according to the highest posted buy order, and Steam calculates the net to me as higher than it would have been before the sale. But there are lots of items sitting in the buy/sell orders at the same price, meaning they should have sold already. And when I've posted cards at the paid price of the highest buy order, a few have sold immediately, but most have not. I see they are posting for the "sale" price I set, but they are sitting there at the same price as the highest buy order.

Anyway, I've seen lag in the transactions before, but these are inconsistent and really long lag times. I'll just chalk it up to Steam sale network broke-ness as usual, but it'll be annoying as hang if I have to go back and raise or lower everything by $0.01 depending on what they do with unsold items after the sale. Will they raise the paid price or lower the net credit?

Without a community game this sale, I haven't been that interested in getting cards for my badges lately. Very sad.

I'm wondering if they will stick to the no game and no featured deep discounts for the Christmas sale. Without either, why check back or craft badges? At least I got essentially a penny more per card I sold during this sale, amounting to a buck or two more than I would have had in credit. Not a big incentive.

I don't think there's ever been a game or meta-community activity during the Thanksgiving weekend sale(s). I would be amazed if they didn't have something figured out for the end of the year extravaganza. Bottom line - Valve and the publishers make money with the sale of pretend cards, so that's not something they're going to forget about.

Holiday Sale 2015 card placeholders are now on my badges page...

And interestingly enough, if I understand the forums correctly, big changes are coming to the Marketplace. Essentially, if you don't use the mobile authentication to secure your STEAM account all trades are placed into a 3 day Escrow and the account owners notified via email that a trade is pending. Details here:
How does it work?

If a user trading away items hasn't had their account protected by a Mobile Authenticator for the past 7 days or has turned off trade confirmations, item delivery will be delayed by Steam for up to 3 days (1 day if you've been friends for at least a year.) This provides the user time to cancel the trade and any other that are pending.

Cancelling trades that are pending or in a trade hold will begin a trading cooldown on your account to prevent any further unauthorized attempts to trade away items.

The simple solution to that is to go ahead and turn on mobile authenticator, which I use on all three accounts.
