Re: Steam Trading Cards
Wow. They're just pulling out all the stops now, eh?
And at the risk of pointing out the obvious, I guess that means Chivalry Medieval Warfare will get cards today at 1pm? Dead Island Riptide tomorrow?

Me: Trading cards?? Cards are so stupid. I don't care about achievements, I'm not going to care about cards.
Steam Sale starts...

Re: Steam Trading Cards
Yeah, that was pretty much my attitude...until I made $26 selling cards and emoticons.
Now I've done a complete 180 and all I want to do is craft badges. I'll still sell foils when I get them (they're just worth too much to keep), but I'm all about badges now. Good job STEAM, you've figured out a new way to get my money -- pennies at a time.

Re: Steam Trading Cards
Yes, however I've been finding it hasn't been an issue. The one that's bugging me the most is Skyrim since I'm pretty much finished with the game and I'm not buying the DLC at $10 a clip. I'll probably wander the map for a few hours as there's no way I've seen everything, but it only seems to take about 30 minutes on average to unlock a card. You say you won't do it, but the first time you unlock a foil one and sell it for $3, you'll keep trying.

Re: Steam Trading Cards
No, you just have to reinstall them. You can leave it running in the background to get your cards. Cheesy, but no point in replaying something you don't want. I also learned that you can get cards even at the start menu. My guess is that if your Steam status shows you 'in-game' that's enough to get a card.Gavin wrote:Ugh, I have to replay games to get these cards? That's awful.

Yep. Even I, who never thought I'd be this kind of farmer, have let a few run while I snoozed or walked away. Hey, $0.60 is $0.60.

I would rather play, but watching a 2 yo while I am working makes playing games tough, and since I am obsessive about completing stuff I figure this is a good way to maximize time

Differs per game. McPixel and Scribblenauts are some of the longest I've seen yet, with about 30+ minutes per drop. I've seen as fast as 10 min per drop.

Re: Steam Trading Cards
Man, this is kind of disheartening. So Steam is now actively promoting farming. "Can't beat 'em, join 'em" defense?
And on that note, I just got my first card, and sold that puppy for .36! WOOT!! MOARRRRRRRRR

Not sure I would call it farming. Besides, you don't even have to be online to get booster packs (where the real money is)

Re: Steam Trading Cards
For someone only interested in maximizing credit ($$) for the least amount of clicking and superfluous playing possible, is it best to just sell the cards as soon as I notice them coming in? Or should I wait, hoard, and trade for some reason? i.e. I couldn't care less about stinkin' badges on my profile, or the ability to use emoticons...just show me the money!
I noted the steam cost curve on one I just got today dropped precipitously yesterday, so I sold it thinking it would only go lower.

On the other hand, adding trading cards to Civ 5 made me fire up the game...at which point I realized I never even touched the Gods and Kings expansion I purchased last year. 90 minutes and four cards later....

Re: Steam Trading Cards
The games everyone plays will have more cards. So games like TF2 and DOTA and L4D2 have a saturated market. Other than that, things like the Steam sale will affect prices. People really didn't have that much of an incentive to craft badges. Now with the sale they do. That means cards bought and taken out of the market (they are destroyed to make badges).Carpet_pissr wrote:For someone only interested in maximizing credit ($$) for the least amount of clicking and superfluous playing possible, is it best to just sell the cards as soon as I notice them coming in? But I just sell them as soon as I get them. The overall trend has been declining since the Beta began.

Yeah, I plan on playing Civ V as I haven't played it in over a year, but if, for some reason life interrupts and I haven't received all my card drops I will be leaving it running while I deal with lifeSmoove_B wrote:On the other hand, adding trading cards to Civ 5 made me fire up the game...at which point I realized I never even touched the Gods and Kings expansion I purchased last year. 90 minutes and four cards later....

Re: Steam Trading Cards
The cards for Civ 5 are now $.18 to $.20 -- that's insane. Historically speaking, cards would go for around $.40 to .70, depending on the game. It's a madhouse!LawBeefaroni wrote:But I just sell them as soon as I get them. The overall trend has been declining since the Beta began.
EDIT: And now Saint's Row 3 is in my Badges list.

I failed to find that on Steam, but I was going to ask for your Skyrim card. But then I realized you have what I have dups of. I'll get plenty more cards, so no problem there, but how can I find your profile anyway?EzeKieL wrote:steam name: ezekieloia

Now up:
Surgeon Simulator 2013
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare
The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead's a bit tough because I don't want to change my choices before Season 2. But I guess I could either leave it on the menu or play a bit and delete the save.

Re: Steam Trading Cards
I wonder if EA/Origin, UbiSoft, etc... have started to second guess backing away from STEAM at this point. I have to believe once they start running the numbers on how much money is being generated via micro transactions they're going to try to cobble together their own system. I'm rather surprised the latest versions of Call of Duty aren't part of it yet as it seems right up their funding model to do so - albeit it on a much smaller scale. I'm also rather surprised the Stardock games haven't joined in yet.

Correction, Scribblenauts took over 50 minutes per card drop. Rivaled only by McPixel, which is far more ridiculous.

Re: Steam Trading Cards
The more I think about this the more I realize just how evil it is.
I am not such a sucker that I would buy a game just for trading cards(yet).
Unlike someone I will not name......^^^^^^^^^
But I am now going to loo every and see before I purchase any game if it is a trading card game.
On top of that take something I bought a few weeks ago on the toilet bowl that is Origin. Euro Truck Simulator 2. I would have preferred to get it on Steam but it was $40 so I said what the hell, it will probably only get down to $20 for the summer sale and I am willing to pay $10 so I can play it now.
I hadn't even considered these FUCKING CARDS! Now I am going to have that little mental bitch slap floating around in my head and popping up every now and then spoiling what would other wise be a good mood(ok not a good mood.....but gooder). Just because of some stupid nickel and dime bullshit make believe trading cards.
I feel like that adolescent, impressionable, blind to the ways of evil capitalism person I once was buying way to many packs of bubblegum baseball cards. All trying to nail the "cards I was looking for" (Mostly Big Red Machine players) with every penny I could scrape together. I was raised poor so that wasn't much.
Curse you STEAM for stealing my maturity!
