Yeah, they caught on at work for a while, and she's been walking some, but it seems more like a reminder that you didn't get around to doing it today, at our age.

I attach mine to my sock. I'm one of those people that tends to constantly bounce my leg. My siblings are the same way. So I hit my steps pretty easily most days. I wouldn't bother, but my company tied it financially to our health care premium discounts.

I've got a Garmin VivoSmart, and I find that I like it more for at-a-glance text notifications than I do for the exercise stuff. It would be better if it could deliver electric shocks when I failed to stand up after extended sitting sessions.

I have to say reading the tweets about how bad Prime Day sucked has been well worth any disappointment. Comedy gold. I'm still laughing at one that compared it to the clearance table at TJ Maxx.

If you buy apps from the Amazon app store and have prime, you can get extra coins if you buy 5000 or 10000 coins.

I bought a $7 item and checked to see if they would give me $1 of download credit to ship it without 2-day delivery. This time they offered $3. I hope that price stays.

I imagine it's either a special for the day, or just because they expect they'll have a lot of shipping to get done because of the extra orders. So probably temporary.

I thought the deals were pretty underwhelming, and anything worth buying sold out too fast. My only "haul" from yesterday was a year's supply of vitamin D3 and a 2-plug USB car charger (the price on the charger was very good but I think it wasn't even part of the Prime Day deals).

The e-commerce giant reported Thursday that on its first Prime Day -- held to celebrate its 20th anniversary -- it sold more units than "the biggest Black Friday ever," which was in 2014. Basing it on items sold, not revenue, is a bit sketchy but you can't argue with something that sells 14K Roombas.

I think it's a bit disingenuous for them to talk about how many Prime subs they sold, as if that will *ever* happen again after the widespread mocking they received for their disappointing deals. Those Prime subs were sold to people based on the expectation that the sale was going to be awesome. Do they expect people to fall for that again?

I think Amazon expects those people to use Prime and be wowed by it.

Assuming they bought something in the sale, they'll have it by now, shipped for free via 2-day. Even if it's just a useless 8GB thumb drive or pink flip flops, it gets Amazon's foot in their door and plants the Prime seed. There is also the Prime Digital stuff that I'm sure they're bombarding them with. They have a year to win the customer over.

My dad still uses the telephone book and my mom was mad the other day she couldn't find movie times in the newspaper. If Amazon was able to get but a 10th of the Silver Tsunami generation to join for the Amazon Prime sale bonanza, they're going to do fine. Because as near as I can tell, that was the group of people they were targeting with deals.

That's not what I meant. They certainly did something that got a lot of new people to subscribe. I'm just questioning the notion that next Prime Day, we'll see a lot more new subs, now that people understand that "Prime Day" is just a day for Amazon to clear old stock that no one was buying any other way.

They may have upwards of 50M Prime members right now. It's as much about maintaining the perception of Prime's value as it gaining new members. By next year they could have 60M. That's nearly 1/5 of the population paying to be a customer.

Or that. Which is fine with Amazon since the average Prime customer spends 3-4 times annually what a non-Prime customer does.

FWIW I'm confident I'm in the black, shipping-wise, with Prime this CY and there are still 5+ months to go.

Absolutely. I buy things on Amazon that I normally would not, because shipping is "free". I have no doubt that I save more than $99 on shipping annually.

Don't forget that you get about half a Netflix out of it. That's about $50 in value.

When Amazon Prime video started, it really wasn't all that much value. Now? It's much better and their rental prices are competitive -- particularly when you select "No Rush Shipping" as part of your Prime membership and they give you $1+ in rental credits.

One of the big advantages Prime has over Netflix is all the top-notched HBO programs. For those without HBO GO, having access to that quality content is huge. We just re-watched the Wire on Prime, now that it is completely in HD. Best show ever.
