Thanks for digging up the original prophecy. I hadn't thought about it in a while.

I keep getting a "504 Gateway Timeout" error when I try to access OOTS. Been that way for weeks. :(

Yeah, getting there has been a little troublesome lately. I had to refresh a few times to get both OOTS and Erfworld to load today.

The right "being" implies singular as well, but the title of the comic seems to make it clear this is the intended prophecy fulfillment.

Woah - thanks for those links. I didn't realize we'd seen the three Fiends before. Wow. Rich Burlew deserves a freaking medal for the stuff he's pulling off here.

Same here. I used to check OOTS pretty regularly, but now I find myself simply catching up on a bunch of strips at once on the off chance I can actually get the site to load.

It's really hard to say with Rich, he made fun of the 100th strip and the 500th strip included a broken 4th wall comment about special strips for certain numbers. That being said 666 does sound like a fine number to be specialized.

I always that V was neutral... And if so, won't s/he/it just have to do some ridiculously "good" thing to bring those moral scales back to neutral?

The fiends are aware of the existance of the gates.
The demon chick told them about it.

Are they wanting to use V to further weaken the seals?

I wonder if V will find a loophole.

Wow, I can't believe how long it's been since I read OOTS. Apparently I quit around episode #510 or so. I don't remember why exactly - I think the sporadic posting schedule may have been to blame, or maybe that's another webcomic I'm thinking of. Time to get caught up, I guess.

Yeah, you have to assume that that is at least partially what the fiends are after. Poking around on the OOTS forums, someone was noting that the fiends never said *when* they would take possession of V's soul (to last as long as V maintains the splice). Quite possibly they plan on taking possession of V's soul when he is around one of the gates, to help them gain control of that gate.

Funny, I've always assumed V is female.

And if she's smart, she'll kill the dragon, contact the other party members, then break the splice - giving the fiends only a short amount of time in posession of her body. The longer she maintains it, the worse it will be for her in the end.

We already know she's smart based on actions he's taken that indicate her INT stat. ;)

The question is whether not he would be able to give up ultimate power and go back to being merely above average.

She's smart (high INT), but how's her WIS? Given that s/he accepted the splice in the first place, and given his/her recent actions, it strikes me that s/he's lost a great deal of perspective and common sense. He's already indicating that V's going to have a hard time exerting her own will in the face of the other souls. I suspect that this whole thing goes horribly, horribly wrong, and then goes worse when the fiends call in their marker.

I literally just finished catching up. I spent the past year and a half reading through the entire series sporadically, and got through the last ~150 in the past few days (server flakiness made it fairly annoying too). So now that I'm current, what's the schedule of new strips?
I can't imagine, even at my most inebriated, hearing a bouncer offering me an hour with a stripper for only $1,400 and thinking That sounds like a reasonable idea.-Two Sheds

I think Rich finally learned to not post a schedule and just post when he has something to post. Some weeks you may get 2 or more updates and other weeks maybe just 1 update.

For me the more updates the better as I've invested enough time that I want to know what's going on but having everyone spread out has gotten a bit old.

The OOTS forums have been taken offline due to heavy traffic, but over on SDMB, I read that that the runes in the circle around V are a simple substitution cipher reading:
Spoiler:
Bet you thought you'd found a secret message in this, didn't you
I think Rich saves up a couple comics so when he knows he's about to lay a blockbuster on us, he can have the follow-ups ready to go. It's a good plan but the strip is pretty much all blockbuster so it's hard for him to keep up.

I've got all of my web comics subscribed to RSS feeds. You read 'em as they're updated, and don't have to check it every day (although I did have to change the RSS feed updating schedule to every hour).

What is considered a "short" time in an eternity?

Did she/he/it negotiate a percentage of her time or a finite time period?
edit -- finite time in 633... but i still think there is something tricky in the way they are wording it.

I guess the real question is - How long is an hour in eternity?

Is it an equivalent percentage of one hour in a beings life? Or is it an hour divided by infinity? I am thinking it will be 1hour*3/788400 life hours(90 years) or .0381% in this example and .0381% of eternity is...

last edit "Exact order of custody to be determined at a later point." <--- this might be the key if it is actually a finite time period. Perhaps they plan to interrupt any bliss in eternity by taking payment in infinitesimally small increments stretched over eternity?

I've got to say - I am really enjoying the re-reading of this particular story arc...
starting around

Spoiler:
"Parent, do you think Other Parent will be returning home soon?"
"I apologize for the delay madam. Had to banish a human ghost who just wouldn't leave. Thinks the whole campaign revolves around him"
"What possible preparations could a pastry chef make to increase their chances of fighting a dragon?"
"Magical power beyond your wildest imaginings * "
"Give? No. Do we look like socialists?"
"Contracts are for people who have something to hide" <--- is that from willy wonka?
"We simply don't need to trick you if we can get what we want by playing it straight
"Oh that? That's just the choir of the dead pedophiles - We snip'em fresh every morning so they keep that high pitch."
I am going to have to start reading this from number 1 - thanks OO!

I actually may pick up the collections. It's fairly rare to see a comic with a fairly detailed developing storyline like this one has. Unfortunately, my usual discount book websites don't seem to be selling them themselves, and I'm not crazy about using their merchants. May just need to get them at full price at the game store.

On the Origin of PCs is easily as entertaining as the regular strip. The recruiting of the OotS members scene in the tavern is soooo awesome.
