I noticed a listing for "Ros the Red-headed whore". Is that Shae from the books?
Don't remember her having red hair.

That character isn't in the books. She's written into the pilot.

As long as she doesn't tug her braid, stamp her foot, or smooth her skirt, I'm cool with it.

If she is a whore she is more likely to be lifting her skirt than smoothing it. If she is hot I am very alright with that.

Because that's precisely how she's written. I'm assuming they'll give Lena a die-job for the role.

if i were to take a wild guess... the king is known to be a whoremonger (am i using that word correctly?)... yet there are no scenes of him whoring around in the book... just talky talk which is useless in HBO land -right?

in order to get the audience to realize what a great partaker of whores the king is... they probably thought it would be worth having a few scenes with the king whoring it up...

Yeah, I'm surprised we're even debating the merits of adding more nudity and gratuitous sex to the show. Hell, they can add 50 more characters if they're all hot women who like to prance around naked.

From what I've heard she's going to be involved with Tyrion, not Robert. Her role is probably limited to just the pilot.

That pic looks like something out of the opening scene in the books. 10 episodes to cover the first book, and then whatever they want to approve for each season per book. That kind of puts a timeline on Martin if he wants the TV show to follow on the books and actually come to a conclusion instead of being left high and dry and either ending early or taking off in its own direction.

Unless they stretch the first book out, that is. Even if they do one season per book that gives them four seasons to work with already and it certainly can be stretched out longer. Not that HBO has a track history of long period piece shows anyways. Not counting mini-series likes Band of Brothers, of course. Rome got good ratings but cost more than $100M for the first season. Deadwood won a bunch of Emmies and was nominated for even more and only last three seasons. Carnivale was supposed to be six seasons but only made it two.

That's terrific news. I can't wait until these come out on DVD. I'm not optimistic, however, that Martin will be anywhere close to finishing book 6 before the 6th season of the show (if there are that many) is ready to come out. That could pose some very significant hurdles for the production.

I hope there's going to be more than 10 episodes per season, as that seems a bit short. Perhaps HBO has just picked up part of the first season?

Yes, we need to know how long will each episode will be. If each are only one hour, then 10 episodes per season seems very tight. I can easily see most chapters being one hour long.

I hope the author gets the next book out very soon. I have not heard of any timeline yet.

I don't see that. I see chapters being 1-2 'segment' lengths. Some of them could be the space between commercials. Certainly there are exceptions for packed chapters, but an hour/chapter would take ten seasons to complete one book.

Source? I've certainly never heard that he might decide not to finish the series, nor that he's planning on dying anytime soon.

Torfish wrote:I hope the author gets the next book out very soon. I have not heard of any timeline yet.

Because there isn't a timeline for completion. He's at least learned his lesson that he's terrible at guessing how long it will take him to finish, so he's stopped trying to make predictions. It will take as long as it takes, which so far is already years longer than anyone even pessimistically expected.
