Really, REALLY, not liking the forum mergers. I realize the posts counts went way down after the site was offline for an extended period last year, but that really wasn't a good reason to consolidate things.

It strikes me as an attempt to make things APPEAR to be more active here, when it isn't really fooling anyone, and that doesn't really matter, as long as the QUALITY of the posts remains high. (It's somewhat sad to say this, but compared to the rest of the internet, the quality of posting here is very high.)

I have very much enjoyed, throughout the years, going into the Unreleased Games forum and seeing what's coming down the pike and what knowledgeable folks are thinking about them. Likewise with the other forums here. That way I know what I'm getting into, and I'm not feeling all assaulted when I step into a thread that turns out to be of no interest to me.

(Yes, I feel ASSAULTED when I step into the wrong threads. It's one thing about the internet that I absolutely hate - sometimes you step into a thread where nattering ninnies are going on and on about something stupid, and for a brief instance you feel like you're in the mind of a moron, and that's very unsettling, VERY unsettling.)

This is not like mixing peanut butter with chocolate and coming up with something great. It's more like mixing pickles with ice cream and coming up with something awful.

CHANGE IT BACK, BEFORE I HAVE A HISSY FIT!!!!!!!!!!

...never mind, it's too late.

Well, after trying it out for a weeks, I have to say, I find the combined forum to be a lot less interesting now. I have no interest in going in there anymore because everything looks untidy. Everything's harder to find. Colour me disappointed.

I concur, and cast my vote for an unbuggering of the amalgamated forums at the earliest opportunity.

Even though I don't buy games anymore, I used to pop in every now and then to see what's in development and what all the cool kids are playing now. I don't do that anymore.

exactly...can't remember the last time i actually used anything else. just hit the 'view new posts' link, skim the list for interesting threads that have been updated since your last visit, and check out each one that catches your eye in a new tab. it's easy to keep track of everything in the forum without paying any attention to the various sections.

I really still dont like the way the new forum is organised - for instance, I'm starting a few Solium Infernum PBEM games now, and for clarity's sake, I'm making a thread about each. It gets very cluttered and messy to have all of that as well in the PC games area.

The only people we've heard from so far, are those who dont like it. Does anyone like the way it is now?

Messy in what way? There's nearly three weeks of threads on the first page so there is little risk of you "losing" the threads. I also think that more people will see your game in PC Games than they would have in MP. Let's see how your games progress before determining whether it's really a problem.

BTW, you may get the participants to use the Subscribe topic to know when updates are made.

Messy as in we have all kinds of different threads in there... you know what, nevermind - There's been some here who didnt like it, and I dont like it either, but it wont change, I'm sure, so..I'll keep quiet about for now..really, this time I mean it ;-)

No! Don't be quiet. We actually want to know people's opinions as this progresses. And I'm just saying give peace a chance ;)

Seriously, though, we do have different threads in there, but the question is will you get more participation because of the traffic or less because it is hard to follow. My belief is you're going to get more to join than you would have in a MP forum that few people actually visited and the messiness issue actually isn't bad due to the few active threads in PC as well as the Subscribe function.

Anyhow, just give it a little bit and we have a real test case. :)

hehe okay, I'll give it some time... In case some knows the DISC profiling used in many companies, it probably wont be any surprise that I have a very high S which means I'm pretty slow to accept and embrace change ;-)

I'm curious - are there any sort of metrics (in terms of hard numbers of traffic and/or less-tangibles like "user satisfaction") being used to determine whether this change was for the better or worse? It seems like the change was made with the intent to "try it and see if it's an improvement" which isn't a bad idea, but in my experience reading the effects of a change like this can be tough. What's the plan?

It's general satisfaction. If you're stepping up to create the KPI's and measure them, we are always open to help.

FWIW, I like the change. I'm clicking on a lot of different things I never saw before because I was too lazy to go in the other forums.

No thanks. I was just wondering if you had any measurable way to know whether the change had been a good idea. Sounds like the shouts of those who do or don't like it will somehow be aggregated into "satisfaction." That sounds hard. Good luck!

Ahhhhh man,

I've been gaming hard the past couple of months (Risen and now Dragon Age) and I simply haven't been posting much. And now I find the unreleased game section has been merged. Whaaaaaaaaaaat!!!!!!

I know I'm late to the party but I loved the Unreleased Game section. It was an easy way to get news about up and coming games. In scanning this thread I see a lot of folks were annoyed about jumping forums once the game was released but that never bothered me. Typically after the game was released someone would simply state the discussion has moved to the PC forum and usually the posting would stop. Additionally, I don't really like the idea of having discussions about pre specs, alpha graphics, released dates, and who's going to publish mixed in with real discussions about a released game. Especially if the idea of the input and removal of the [not released] tag holds up.

Put me in the corner of not liking this change.

I'm sure I'll get used to it. In fact, it's not a huge deal to me unless we get a large influx of new participating members (in which case, I'm not going to want to do my own thread-sorting), but dammit, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I don't like change. My sister calls me a "Tech Luddite" for a reason, and this is a good example.
