I was really unimpressed with H&R Block the last time I used it... Maybe six years ago. An extra $15 for Turbo Tax seemed worth it. However, Turbo Tax plays games with efiling where they say it's free but then they charge you fees any way and then you get hit for direct deposit and lord knows what else and you start looking at about $100 for the program and for the full efiling experience and I get pissed every year. I'll go back to H&R Block, which I don't actually care for, if efiling truly is free without all the hidden fee games. Does anyone know if there are any other potential charges for using H&R Block.

:?:
I've never been charged fees with Turbo Tax. I use the deluxe edition. I just have to pay to e-file my state tax.
Never used H&R Block.

They always charge me fees to direct deposit and the fees are always paid to Turbo Tax or are reduced from my refund. I feel like I am always getting the wrong version.

Searching...

Efiling for state is $19.95

Using turbo tax to direct deposit is $29.95

http://turbotax.intuit.com/support/kb/e ... /1883.html" target="_blank

comes to about $100 when it's all said and done. (49.95 + 19.95 + 29.95 + tax)

that $29.95 is for using your tax return refund to pay for your state e-file charge.

I just paid $19.95 + tax for state e-file on my CC and then My fed and state is directly deposited into my bank for no charge.

If I use TT this year I will pay better attention. But even if they knock that $30 off it's still $70 for the whole process versus $24.95... If H&R Block doesn't charge all of those fees as well.

So if I were to get this thing from Amazon, I'd still have to pay another $20 to file my state return, right?

If so, I'm totally going to continue using TaxAct online. I've used them for several years with no trouble. Through them, it's $18 for both federal and state efiles.
I can't imagine, even at my most inebriated, hearing a bouncer offering me an hour with a stripper for only $1,400 and thinking That sounds like a reasonable idea.-Two Sheds

I only paid 10 bucks through H&R block but i did it over the web and i had a really simple return.

I went to the IRS and selected efile, they had a list of companies you could go through, i choose H&R and proceeded through that. Once i had finished my free fed. filing they offered to import my already entered info to my state return and file it for 9.95. I already got my state return and am scheduled to get my fed return this weekend, direct deposit on both.

Go to my brother's office and file my own return. Pays to have a tax preparer in the family. I get to use Lacerte, which is the professional software and I get to pay nothing, of course I'm going to owe this year, so poo on that, but I should have known better.
