Search index being updated *completed*
I've enabled 3 letter search words, and as a result the search index is being rebuilt. Over the next few hours searches may return unexpected (or no) results.

Murphys law that when you leave system on overnight to index, that will be the exact time of a power outage interrupting said indexing.. Anyways it's resumed, currently over 500K posts indexed (out of 1.5ish million).

Must have come across a corrupted post.. Getting mysql errors.. So I am running an optimize table on the posts table and see what it comes up with. Nothing is ever easy with phpbb3!

Re: Search index being updated
For now I've had to set it back to 4; the search index kept dieing for some reason at 3 (and I don't have the time to figure out why, the logs didn't tell me much).
So hopefully I can get the index rebuilt w/ the 4 character minimum until a time that I've got more time and can investigate further.

Re: Search index being updated
Perhaps forum people should simply agree that everyone only uses words four letters long, longer also acceptable.
This activity much more difficult than this poster expected.

Re: Search index being updated
As the one who made the request, I wanted to thank the forum gods in person. Thanks for even attempting it. I'm very sorry to hear it was a bigger job than anticipated.
For those who missed my original post, I'd asked for 3 letter search because I'm a sports (real life and sports games) fan and I often find myself wishing I could search on NHL, MLB, UFC, NFL, etc. So if we'd all agree to just add an OO (For Octopus Overlords of course) to every word, we could avoid the problem.
Foroo exampleoo, thisoo wayoo Ioo couldoo talkoo aboutoo theoo NHLoo andoo thenoo lateroo, I'doo haveoo nooo troubleoo searchingoo foroo theoo threadoo.
This could work!

Until they work it out, Terrified, there's always this kind of search ("+NFL +2010 site:octopusoverlords.com" at google).

Re: Search index being updated
I may try this again shortly; I was having problems reindexing back at 4 letters -- and then decided to let it run on my desktop instead of laptop, and it ran without a problem. Wondering if maybe a crappy wireless connection through WDS was the cause of the SQL errors (Odd that it would rely on the client doing the indexing though).
If I have time today I will remote to my home PC and try it again.. So if search results are odd, check back here.

Ok trying one last time w/ 3 characters -- I upgraded the board to 3.0.7-PL1 as well beforehand, so here's hoping it works!

Re: Search index being updated
So far so good (knock on wood).. About 500K of 1.5 Million posts done.. It was crapping out long before this point on my laptop.
Hopefully it continues to run throughout the rest of today and indexes everything at 3 letters.

Re: Search index being updated
It's still plugging away.. at 1.3 million posts indexed now @ 3 letters.. Not sure why the index rate has slowed so much, but I'm not touching it for now as it's still progressing.

Re: Search index being updated
No issues thus far. Three-word searches work fine, and aren't noticeably slower than the prior index.

Yeah, I have an issue. Every time I press the go to new post button for this thread, it still takes me to the top of the thread. Weird.

Probably because it became a "new" thread when it stopped being a global sticky.tjg_marantz wrote:Yeah, I have an issue. Every time I press the go to new post button for this thread, it still takes me to the top of the thread. Weird.

Re: Search index being updated *completed*
The search index (at least for the Forum Games forum) is definitely borked.
I've made a number of search on material that I know is there, and I get no results.
I haven't confirmed this, but I have the impression that there's a temporal aspect: indexed data go back to a certain point, but no farther.

Re: Search index being updated *completed*
A search for "ten" in Forum Games turns up the oldest thread there (2006).

My mistake; I misremembered. The thread I was expecting to find actually occurred at popehat during the Great OOutage.

This is only humorous because it's Grund, paragon of clear thinking, who had the mental lapse.
