I imagine that there are plenty of people willing to buy a Verizon iPhone that don't curerntly have any sort of data phone. And most of my data has nothing to do with browsing. They would also have to contend with what the media tells me would be a mass exodus from AT&T's network. Since I don't have any serious issues with AT&T, I suppose I should lobby for Verizon to get it just so all those people get off my network and make my experience that much better. :P And I fully expect Verizon to come up with new and more interesting ways to suck.

I'm sure there'd be an impact; I'm just pointing out that it's not like VZW isn't already supporting millions of iPhone-like devices.

Heh, no worries on my ole fashioned wi-fi version. :P

The subscriber data was obtained by a group calling itself Goatse Security. Though the group is steeped in off-the-wall, 4chan-style internet culture—its name is a reference to a famous gross-out Web picture—it has previously highlighted real security vulnerabilities in the Firefox and Safari Web browsers, and attracted media attention for finding what it said were flaws in Amazon's community ratings system.

There's a link in the article to "Goatse Security" that I'm not touching with a 10 foot pole...

Just noticed a major problem with the iPad's functionality as an entertainment device.

You can carry the iphone into the bathroom with you in your pocket, and no one is the wiser.

But if you carry the iPad into a stall, people look grossed out.

That explains why my wife never asks to use my iPad. There's nothing better than sitting on the can for a good 20-25 minutes doing your business while playing Castlecraft.

What you don't realize is that iPad was paid for by a Mr. Mark Wahlberg. "Here honey. Give this to that jackass husband of yours. He'll be so busy playing with that stupid thing he won't even notice that you booked a hotel room and were shagging me all weekend long. Oh, and say hi to your mother for me."

I have trouble taking anything said by Goatse Security seriously. I'm not saying this isn't serious or that they're wrong. Just saying that the name has got to be one of the worst names ever if you are a serious business. I'm not even sure Two Girls One Cup Security would be worse.

Has anyone ordered their iPad from Apple.com? The site says delivery in 7-10 business days. I don't want to wait that long yet I'm sick of constantly refreshing Best Buy's page hoping to catch one in stock.

I guess I'm hoping Apple is overestimating delivery times.

Go, Miss Taken, Go! That's awesome. How do you like it so far, Captain?

The more I use it, the more I love it. Fast, versatile, beautiful, portable. Anywhere in the house I can bounce between web, email, news, .doc's & .pdf's (i.e. work), TV shows, movies, family photos/videos, books, magazines, comics, or games. Not to mention addictive, creative timewasters like ThumbJam, Sketchbook, Gravilux, Beatwave, etc. It's actually kind of ridiculous.

I thought I needed a new laptop, but what I really needed was this. But I still hate that bloated, lumbering wildebeast they call iTunes.

I couldn't stop fiddling with it this weekend. I realize it doesn't do too much different from my laptop, but what triggercut mentioned about magical apple pixie-dust is just too true about the iPad: it's just damn fun to use. I've been streaming Arrested Development episodes via Netflix, reading the NY Times app, and playing way too much Angry Birds (it's just 99 cents, are you kidding me?). My parents were flabbergasted by Soundhound, which identifies songs via the mic input, and by the free Dragon dictation app, that works pretty well, assuming you don't speak too fast and you make sure to enunciate well.

So yeah, it's definitely more of a toy than a tool so far. A mark of how addictive it is, though, is that I rarely was on my laptop all weekend. It's just more comfortable to lounge on the couch with the iPad surfing the web...

I've had a reservation at the local Apple store for a week and a half but somehow Best Buy got them in stock first. I've got a new 16gig WiFi model on my desk.

It's currently busy importing the entire run of SandMan into ComicZeal

Any recommendations for a case? I hear good and bad things about the Apple case (which is out of stock anyway) but I can see I'm going to want something - particularly if I let Elise play with it.

I posted in the accessory thread about the Dodocase and the Apple hate. In short: Despise the Apple case. Dodo case, good, but I think I would rather just have a slip to put it in.

It's only rated 3 stars on Amazon, it's selling, but doesn't seem to be the best case out there, that's for sure. Heck I had to wait 5 weeks for the Dodocase and for $10 more its a far better case.

I do like the slimness of the Apple case, and I'm getting used to the "sharp" edges. The only thing I don't like about it is that the microfiber shows every scuff and speck of dust.

I seem to remember reading that you had mixed feelings about the Dodocase. Do you think it's worth the $60?

I'm obviously going to have to order a case online and I'm undecided between the Applecase and the Dodo.

I like it, it's just not as nice as I expected, besides the wood, the cover feels kind of cheap. It's so easy to take out of the case, I mostly take it out of the case if I am going to be use it for a longer period of time. All buttons/speakers/ports are very easy to get to in the Dodocase, much better than the Apple case in this area.

I would never buy the Apple case, not for $40 at least.

Wired second issue is available for 3.99

Sports Illustrated is now available at 4.99
It's 104 first team All-Americans.
It's a college football record 59 bowl appearances.
It's 33 bowl victories.
It's 22 Southeastern Conference Championships.
It's 14 National Championships.

At some places they play football. At Alabama we live it.

Is anyone surprised no one has tried to license some old turn-based strategy games to port for the iPhone/iPad? Especially with the newest iPhone now supporting a decent resolution. I can't imagine it would be that difficult to get Master of Magic, Master of Orion, Imperialism 2, etc, up and rolling on these devices.

I haven't purchased yet. Trying to find a review first.

It's amazing how much of a scrooge I turn into when it comes to dropping $5 on an ipad app, but then I'll turn around and sink $60 on a PS3 or Xbox game. :P

I love my iPad. It's the greatest comic book reader ever. I'm even using it to re-read the entire run of Order of the Stick.

I'd love it even more if it could connected to my WiFi for more than two seconds at a time.

Yeah they need to fix that. You aren't going to like this solution, but it works:

Buy an Airport Express and use it as your router. I have zero drops on the Apple routers.

Sure is. I mainly bought the Airport Express to take with me on trips. It works great for that. In the process I realized I wasn't dropping connection with it at all. It's better than my old G router so I just kept it as my primary wireless router though.

I don't get it.. I have no problems with mine? I've got a WRT300N and a Netgear N router; both running DD-WRT (and meshed using WDS).. I use it outside on the patio, upstairs, downstairs.. No problems at all?

My wifi at home had been working fairly well but it refused to reconnect to the work network. One possible workaround I found was to reset the network settings on the iPad.

I did so and then started having trouble reconnecting to my Home wifi.

Now I have to manually try to reconnect to my home wifi two or three times before it decides to connect.

Fortunately I still have ~500 OOTS comics waiting in Comiczeal for times when I have no wifi. 8-)
