I think I joined GG in 1999. I was definitely lurking by then. I may even have done one or the other or both before that. But, yeah... this is a long time on the 'net.

Wow, reading Peacedog's history post really brought back a lot of memories. I'm not on here anywhere as much as I used to be at Gone Gold or at OO at the start, but I still do come by and post from time to time.

During the last year of GG, there were several threads where discussion veered into the area of "nature/intelligence of humans." Inevitably someone would mention that an octopus had been observed opening a pickle jar. This fact was always followed by a statement to the effect of fearing our octopus overlords. I'd always assumed that the name of this place had some spiritual connection to those threads.
