I saw it in the liquor store that carries all the great hard stuff sometime in the summer, but we weren't buying a'spensive rum that day.

Black spiced rum. 94 proof.

I've seen it at the local Albertsons for around $20. I've been curious to try it as well.

I haven't actually tried it yet. On Saturday the sales tax on alcohol goes away in MA, so I'll buy some then.

I must have this.

A bit o.t., but the last time I worked in an office I drew one of the three partners for a Secret Santa exchange. The guy was an ass and everyone hated him. I bought him a bottle of Arrogant Bastard ale, and a biography of Larry Fine called "Larry: The Stooge in the Middle".

Come to think of it, maybe that's why I no longer work in an office.

Although not a rum drinker by habit, I could become fond of this Kraken. It isn't sickly sweet and it packs a nice fiery kick comparable to bourbon, but with a chocolaty aftertaste. I've only sampled it neat, but suspect that it would be better on the rocks.

Too expensive to become habit forming, though. The 750-ml bottle is $21. I'd have gone with 1.5 liters for $30 if I'd known that I'd like it. This might displace Irish cream as my once-a-year treat.

I used to drink rum & coke when I was a kid, and I've had various run concoctions when visiting the Caribbean. Oh, and my mom's rum balls were one of my favorite xmas cookies.

I'll have to pick up a bottle next time we venture to CL's. Sounds like something I'd really like.

I am primarly a beer drinker but do enjoy liqour and wine on occasion. I only drink Scotch and Bourbon straight up with maybe it passing next to some cool water. So it has to be good, and expensive. A bottle of Highland Park 12 Year Old Scotch is probably my favorite.

I finished off the last of my rum the other night. I'd been adding it to my nightly post-work Mt. Dews and it seemed to work well. I'm definitely eyeing the Kraken stuff for my next trip to the package store, and may spring for the big bottle on the recommendation and try some straight.

We have released the Kraken. Found it at a closer-to-home liquor store. It's good. I've tried it both neat and on the rocks. Even though I only have ice (no whisky stones), it doesn't suffer badly from the addition of a little water. I just wouldn't leave it sit too long.

I noticed that Smokey Bones has a Kraken Coke on their drink list. That actually sounds good to me, and I don't even like cola. I did drink rum & coke sometimes when I was a kid.

Bought me my first bottle of it today. wont be trying it for a while but can't wait. Bout had a fit trying to decide what to get in the store. They had some Gosslings Black 151 proof for the same price as Kraken but I've been wanting some of this stuff for a long time now. And it's now my precious.

I just saw this. I'm not so sure $21/fifth or $30 for a handle is that expensive. That's less than a buck and a quarter a shot at most. Regardless, do you really want a rum that is priced in the bottle-a-day range so as to make it habit forming?

I did eventually buy the big bottle several months ago, and still have 1/4 of it left.

Just my update on my Kraken rum. I'm buzzing real well at the moment so take it with a grain of salt. i keep having to fix grammatical errors.

Anyways I just now got to this. I'm disabled and take 5 or so medications...3 of which are powerful pain meds...Hydrocodone, tramadol, Opana ER....so I cannot drink at all unless I want to die. Anyways i ran out of my meds due to severe extra pain and other problems earlier this week. So I now have a whole week to drink..yay me..not.

This stuff is probably the best tasting alcohol I've drank in all my life...well at least the last 15 years. The taste is almost sweet...VERY smooth. I've been drinking it straight. I have only drank down to the top of the label on it but wow I must be a wuss cause Im good and buzzy.

I'm not a drinker. In my teens ..well ya then i was. I'd drink straight from a keg while tossing back a bottle of tequila. Passing out while walking was part of the fun. I was cool. Now as a real adult im not really a drinker. I may buy a 6 pack a beer and take 6 months to drink it. Faster if I give it away as i go. Yuengling is my beer of choice. Anyways this Kraken is good stuff. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. Give it a try,.

LOL part way through this typing i got a sneezing fit and lost my thought train. I know there was more..even a full new post..but damn if I can recall it. See?..it is good stuff.

I finished off my 1.75L of Kraken the other night, so I went shopping to replace it. AS they don't see fit to publish the proof or ABV on the bottle (94 Proof, apparently), I replaced the bottle today with Captain Morgan Black, which was $.20 cheaper at listed at 94.6 proof.

I can taste a difference even mixed with my Mt Dew. Time will tell if it was worth the change.

Whipped Cream Vodka and other libations...

Glad I could help. Instead of rum, you can always go with amaretto.

For a rum that isn't a rum and a liqueur that isn't a liqueur, I find I quite like Juan Santos Cafe. Kraken wouldn't like it because it is very sweet, but it's nice as a straight-up dessert drink. I haven't tried mixing it with anything because adding it to coffee seems like it would be redundant. I'm kinda looking forward to eggnog season again though.

I don't mind a snifter of something sweet after a big meal. I like Irish cream or brandy during the winter holidays, or a rum punch on a tropical night, so I'm not entirely a hater. It's just a rare and circumstantial thing.

I can't stand coconut and am at best a passing acquaintance to pineapple, but I have all of the stuff for the Thin Mint. I'll have to remember to try that this week.
