Ah, see thats where you made your mistake. Clearly you know understand that I alone am allowed to sling names at people with impunity, so it all good!

ps: I understand that this is a pretty volatile subject. It wasnt my intention you single you out and call you a facsist, I was referring more to the mob vengeance mentality that has sprung up regarding this. I do apologize for that.

Truth be told, the smartest thing Paterno could have done on Wednesday, would have been to resign. Instead he threw the gauntlet down at the trustees. Once he did that his fate was sealed. I am not arguing that Paterno didnt make mistakes, he definitely did. I knew he wouldnt last the season regardless and Im not upset that his career is over. I just dont like the way things played out.

I'm very confused by everything you wrote above. You basically agree with what was done but then say you don't like the way it played out. So which is it? How should it have played out differently?

I, at this time, am unclear as to Paternos complicity in covering up Sandusky's activities but I dont like the blood thirsty mob mentality that has grown around Paterno because I feel its is being sensationalized for effect and thus distracts from the real crimes involved here.

What blood thirsty mob mentality? So far I've seen no one calling for his criminal prosecution, most just seem to think he used poor judgement in not doing more. So what is this "bloodthirsty" attitude you're speaking of? And how does this distract from the real crime? People are upset at his actions because of the crime. I don't think anyone would be upset at Paterno if he failed to report a jaywalking incident.

Im much more interested in hearing how when a man who is in the neighborhood of 6'4" 230# ( Im not sure on the stats ) when seeing a 60 yr old man raping a 10 yr old boy, can just walk away. If you want to direct your outrage how about asking why McQueary, who WITNESSED the incident ( unlike Paterno who had to act on hearsay ) did less than Paterno did?

I've seen a lot of people ask that same question, and ask why he was still coaching and not fired also. But just because there are questions about his action or inactions, doesn't mean that in the meantime we let Paterno off the hook.

Whatever happened regarding Paterno will come out. Mc Cleary's situation seems pretty clear though and every one seems so busy trying to bury Paterno, that the most culpable person is getting "protective custody" ( Ive also heard that McQuearys protective custody story is BS and that he just in hiding )

Protective custody has nothing to do with your guilt or innocence but rather if you as a witness have been threatened or not. Don't confuse that with Paterno's punishment.

Anyway, my point is not that I feel Paterno should get a pass, its that I feel there are better ways to clear this mess up.

Uh, you do know there is an ongoing criminal investigation, right? A grand jury investigated and issued indictments. What more would you like?

It seems the focus is misplaced and people want blood regardless.

Really? You seem to be totally ignoring the grand jury investigation and the indictments issued in the case.

Paterno, in my opinion is down the list of people who need to answer for this. He does need to answers but shouldnt we get answers from McQueary, Curly and Shultz first.

Curly and Shultz are facing criminal charges. They aren't going to say anything until trail. Surely you realize that, right?

Yet, the focus is on Paterno. I feel that focus isnt driven by a need for justice but a need for vengence. I want justice.

Sure, but once again you seem to be totally ignoring the criminal case. You want justice, then wait for the trial and let the justice system take its course. That's it purpose. But there's no reason to wait for the trial to act on Paterno. Even if Curly and Schultz didn't commit perjury, there's plenty of evidence that Paterno failed seriously. There's no reason for the university president to wait. Paterno serves at the pleasure of the university and can be fired whenever they want to do so.

I had no interest in what the man had to say. He's in the courts for a reason. He can tell it to the judge.

And apparently there's been some fallout down at The Citadel:

Over the weekend, the nationally known South Carolina college detailed an abuse allegation against one if its alumni, Louis Neal "Skip" ReVille, 32, who was arrested late last month.

He faces at least six charges, including three counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and three counts of lewd act on a minor, according to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, police.
...
In 2007, The Citadel received an allegation from a former camper that five years earlier, ReVille had invited the boy into his room at The Citadel Summer Camp to watch pornography. Another camper was also present. They did not touch each other, but engaged in sexual activity, the college said.

"Though the general counsel was unable to corroborate the accusation, the college continued its investigation with the camper's family, who made it clear they were very concerned about maintaining their privacy and not having their names publicized," Rosa and Doug Snyder, chairman of The Citadel Board of Visitors, said in a Saturday statement, referring to the camper who made the initial accusation.

Costas said that he was talking to the lawyer and the lawyer asked Costas if he wanted to talk to Sandusky. It caught Costas off guard but he jumped on the chance.

On a previous version of the website for Goodall and Yurchak in State College, for whom Dutchcot serves as counsel, The Second Mile was listed among her volunteer activities.

That is the nonprofit organization founded by Sandusky in 1977 to serve area youth.

Fox News wrote:The judge who ordered former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky be freed on $100,000 unsecured bail on charges he sexually abused eight boys reportedly volunteered for his charity.

District Judge Leslie Dutchcot, who handled Sandusky's preliminary arraignment, gave his Second Mile charity between $500 and $1,000 and worked as a volunteer for the group, Fox affiliate WTXF-TV reports.

The report comes after separate revelations that Sandusky was continuing to receive hefty pension payouts from the university. According to the Harrisburg Patriot-News, Sandusky took a nearly $150,000 lump-sum payment at retirement and still gets almost $60,000 a year.

...

Prosecutors had requested a $500,000 bail for Sandusky and that he be required to wear a leg monitor, but Dutchcot ruled that he be freed without having to post any money unless he failed to show up for court.

Oh man, every time Sandusky's lawyer opens his mouth, pure gold comes flying out:

“We believe we found him, and if we have found him, he’s telling a very different story than Mike McQueary,’’ Amendola said. “He’s saying it never happened.’’
Despite a report by The New York Times that close to 10 more alleged victims have come forward since Sandusky’s arrest, Amendola maintains all of them could be lying.
“Isn’t that a possibility?’’ Amendola said. “What we’re saying is we plan to investigate this and find out if that’s a possibility. Is it possible that Jerry did all these things? Of course. And if he did, they’re the most serious types of offenses that anyone could commit upon children and should be punished accordingly. But what if he didn’t? What if he’s innocent? His life will never be the same.’’

That's all I saw there. A little levity is needed in this thread. It's just damn depressing. The MJ defense is even less believable when you're into college athletics.

This whole thing disturbs me; I find it really frightening what a well-connected person can achieve when (supposedly) abusing their authority over others. If this guy's guilty, I hope they keep digging out the connections and resources that enabled him and toss them all in a stew together.

The showers at our highschool almost never got used. People would wait until they got home. The coaches actually had their own locker room and shower too.

1. Sandusky going on the radio suggests either a complete failure of client control or very bad judgment by the lawyer.

2. The lawyer's background with a 16-year-old girl (and it's not clear to me, from what I've read so far, whether the girl was a client at the time) is troublesome, particularly when combined with the lawyer's very odd rhetoric in support of his client. The lawyer's statements to the press are, from a defense attorney standpoint, difficult to explain.

3. Note that even if Sandusky WERE innocent of EVERYTHING, it is undisputed that there were REPORTS of inappropriate contact between him and kids, and it's clear that Penn State's response to those reports was pathological, unprofessional, and reckless.

Coaches don't require a shower. In larger programs they even have their own restrooms. No idea about PSU.

Someone implied that this scandal is going to change how colleges do things.

Its a known fact a lot of colleges "cover up" some things that occur on campus to remain attractive to future students and their parents. As such, how many athletic directors, how many coaches, how many presidents will have to resign as charges start to come forward?
Some claim to be things they aren't.
Some claim things they don't deserve.
Some claim to know more than they ever will.
I don't claim anything, because no one would believe the truth anyways.

I can understand a guy disregarding his lawyer's advice and trying to speak in his own defense, I can see getting that frustrated at seeing your character being dragged through the mud with no one speaking up for you. What I can't understand is a guy saying in his own defense "Yeah I did some of that stuff they say I did, just not the parts that are illegal."

That's not helping your side at all.

Not saying I know Sandusky to be guilty but he's following the self-destructive handbook of attempting to verbally alter reality.

But when you call it "horsing around", it's ok.

The best I can figure is that he's trying to increase the chances someone kills him before this goes to trial. Nothing else makes sense.

I didnt grow up on a farm or anything. Do horses commonly anally rape each other?

That's not helping your side at all.

The lawyer is saying he recommended it.

But this? This right here?

BOB COSTAS:
Are you sexually attracted to young boys, to underage boys?

JERRY SANDUSKY:
Am I sexually attracted to underage boys?

BOB COSTAS:
Yes.

JERRY SANDUSKY:
Sexually attracted, you know, I enjoy young people. I love to be around them. But no I'm not sexually attracted to young boys.

That's not helping.

I mean, imagine it.

Wife: Did you sleep with the babysitter on our bed?

Me: Did I sleep with the babysitter on our bed?

Wife: Yes.

Me: Sleep with the babysitter on our bed, I mean, our babysitter's great, I enjoy spending time with her, and our bed is very comfortable, but no, I didn't sleep with the babysitter on our bed.

The only way this guy gets more creepy is if he owns a beat up old van with blacked out windows, that he keeps large amounts of candy in.

Isn't repeating the question a sign of a lie about to arrive? I think I read something about that.

I'm sure his lawyer must have stressed "If they ask you if you are guilty, if you are a pedo, if you are attracted to children, say NO". He probably forgot that part in all the excitement.
