Sung to the tune of your choosing - "It's a boy! It's a boy! It's a boy! It's a (of course I'd have been just as happy with a girl) boy! It's a boy! It's a boy! IT'S A BOY!"

Seems like March is forever taking in getting here.

Took wife to the hospital today (contractions 5 minutes apart for about 6 hours) and the doctor sent her home but said she was close. YellowPrince could be here as early as tonight and almost certainly no later than tomorrow!

Soon-To-Be OO Fathers - Check In Thread!

You're going to be shocked at how different boy babies are from girls. We really thought we were getting good at the baby thing but it was like night and day when our second arrived.

That's one reason we weren't utterly disappointed when we found out baby #3 (the uh...surprise baby) was a boy. Just like the other 2. Always wanted a girl, but my wife and I kinda looked at each other, shrugged, and said "Well, at least we know how to raise boys." And he's been awesome.

YellowPrince came into this world at 11:31pm. 7lbs 9oz. Mom and baby are doing awesome. He was nursing like a champ within 20 minutes of coming out.

It was a pretty wild delivery. My wife's epidural started wearing off so they were busy trying to get that fixed when a nurse decided to check the baby's progress. She goes, "Oh my God, call the doctor RIGHT NOW. He's about to come out."

The nurse pages the doctor but he was crowning and showed no signs of stopping. She runs into the hallway, literally grabs this startled doctor we'd never seen before, and throws him in front of the baby. Baby almost falls out into his hands.

Our doctor comes running in nearly out of breath and has this look of utter disappointment on his face when he sees the baby already being tended to. I got a great picture of his reaction.

My wife decided to let her parents and my mom witness the birth this time and it was really special. They were thrilled that they got to be a part of it (especially considering the humorous aspect of the whole thing).

Congrats Yellowking!! While our doctor was there on time, he had to step out because our neighbor's doctor was running late, so he disappears and next thing you know you hear a baby in the other room, and he comes back and then a few minutes later he delivers our baby. Glad to hear everything went well and the moms I'm sure were happy.

I don't get to see my daughter much during the week as she is usually asleep by 5, well before I come home. So I usually only get to see her for a short time in the morning, but we had our together time. Normally, she is a little squirm monster and you can pin her down for very long, but we got to just cuddle with each other as she sad perfectly still while dad held her for 15 minutes to get my daughter time in before work. I'm going to consider that as daughter loves daddy more. Until she starts to speak and says mommy, but to this point she has been a daddy's girl. Not sure it will last much longer.

My daughters still prefer me over Mommy (who is a stay at home Mom). We are confident it is only because they don't see me as much. Either way - lots of cuddle time. :)

My wife and I both work, so my daughter has always been pretty equal between both of us, with perhaps a slight edge to me due to traditional "daddy's girl" instincts. However, I've noticed she's much more attached to me now that baby brother has arrived. Probably because my wife has to devote so much more attention to the new little one.

I will say that I don't think there is much better in the world than your daughter spontaneously giving you a big hug and a kiss for no reason. That's when you forget all the problems of the world for a moment and just think, "I'm doing something right."

How old is she?

The day care transition is often rough, but I think our current place (which we love) has been really good for our daughter's development.

I agree. When we first started daycare I thought I was being a horrible parent but over time I realize there were a lot of up-sides as well. She gets consistent routine, which is really huge and something that is not always easy to do at home. She's learned a lot simply from the activities and things they do - I guarantee there is no way if my wife or I stayed home with her that we could engage her in as many varied crafts, songs, dances, toys, playground activities, etc. as she gets to do in a day. Then she of course gets the social aspect of being around other kids, listening to other authority figures, etc. All of which has been super helpful.

I will say infant up to 2 years was the roughest patch, because they're so young they can't give you much feedback on their day and the teachers are limited in the activities they can do with them. You feel like you're just dumping them off with strangers versus them actually learning anything. However, it will all work out. I went through the days where my daughter cried when I left, my wife cried dropping the baby off, even my mom crying about the whole ordeal. Now my daughter absolutely loves it, sometimes to the point we have trouble getting her to leave. :D

Many people do it at 6 weeks. We did it at 12 for both of ours. I was OK with it (of course), but my wife was a wreck. I do the daycare drop-offs primiary because of the drain it is on her when she has to do it, even though the little one is almost 2.5.

My wife and I are expecting number two currently (due in August). Last time fortunately it worked out so that our daughter didn't need to go to day care until about 8 months; this time the kiddo (gender TBD) is likely to go after 3 months or so. Though fortunately this time we have a place that we know and like, which will help with our sanity at least.

And yeah, the transition isn't easy, but the kids adjust. And now (daughter is currently ~ 2.5 years) she comes home with all sorts of stories and songs and whatnot. While we get good updates from the staff, it's also fun to try to piece together her day care activities that day from what she says. Last night I was leaning against the headboard on my daughter's bed, and she told me that I couldn't do that, because it was the "teacher board", and I was not a teacher, but rather a "friend". Oh, ok. :)

So....here's what new dads have to look forward to.

Last night my daughter comes in about 9:30. I had put her to bed about 8:30 so it was very unusual for her to actually get up and come looking for me since she knows she'd get in trouble.

She says, "Daddy, I pee-peed on my shirt."

"Ok no problem sweetie, we'll get you changed." I go to take her shirt off and......it's not pee-pee. It's pure 100% USA Grade A #2 poo, in liquid form. And it is all over her pants, and running down her legs, and on the carpet. I call to my wife. "Babe.....I...............need.................HELPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

About this time the baby starts screaming, because babies automatically know the worst possible time to start crying and always take full advantage. My wife is calling, "Ummm I can't, the baby is crying."

"No, you don't understand. The baby can cry. I need help NOW."

We plop her in the tub, start yanking off clothes and putting them in plastic bags. Then I go into her room. There is poo on the bed. I yank off the sheets. The poo has leaked down to the mattress cover. It is on the floor. It is on the walls. It is a poo explosion.

When all was said and done we finally had the situation under control by 11:00pm, including bath, laundry, getting the kids calmed down and back in bed. And my friends wonder why I never have any gaming time anymore...

Yeah, been there. Though our huge one was with vomit, not poo. We've had a number of poo-splosions but not to that degree.

Well, lesson learned this morning... Cannot take your eyes off babies for a second. Wife was changing Zack this morning, reached for a diaper and Zack sat up and fell off the changing table. Fractured his arm just above the elbow. Laughing and playing like nothing is wrong... Tough 9.5 month old who is taking after his uncle who broke his leg at 2 and both arms before he was 7

We actually stopped using our changing table once they started rolling around as it was just too hard to keep them from falling off. They just get changed on the floor now.
