Gearing up for GW2 - The next GW1 resurgance

Postby miltonite » Tue Feb 28, 2012 3:51 pm

I figured the other GWEN thread was just too long and GWEN is an "old" game now.

Here we are again. On the cusp of another Guild Wars that we have been waiting 3ish years for, and I need more HOM points. I am going to start working toward my titles again. 30 is all but out of reach but I can still go further than what I currently am.

Tonight I plan to play at about 9CST and go after some elite skills in Nightfall. That can be changed to anything. I also have an assassin that is fun to play that needs to get through Factions.

If you have something in particular you want to do show up and we will help you. If not, show up and lets cap some elite skills.
I need more help than you can offer.

Teggy, what campaign are you in? I have a low level (9 I think) Necro at Yak's bend in Prophecies. My assassin is level 20 but less than halfway through factions. We can meet you anywhere and help get you through whatever campaign you need to get through.

Um, whatever the very first campaign is? Is that prophecies? I'll have to log in to see what level I'm at. I don't have time tonight, but should be finally be done cleaning out my old rental tonight so I should have a lot of free evenings coming up.

9 central (I am eastern)? Maybe Monday nights? That's a night I tend to be doing nothing. I could also probably do Sunday afternoons unless we move our SWTOR night there.

Me, Arcanis, and Loknload did some elite capping today. It felt good to be back in guild wars and actually look forward to going home to play a game. It has been a long time since I felt that way.

After you guys left I dropped some major coin on a useless set of elite armor to get a bit closer to finishing that out. Then I cleaned out my storage selling lots of stuff that I don't use, and went treasure hunting in NF to replace some of that coin. Nearly back at 100 plat and I found a ruby. I'll run them again with my other characters later.

Well if any OOers are willing to sell me ruby or sapphire at a discount or mini pets I may not already have let me know. I just need a few more minis and about 15 more each of the gems. I'm close enough to get a taste of the max 30 HoM points.

So, quick question - I was reading up on the Wiki and it seems like Factions and Nightfall are standalone campaigns for new characters rather than expansions. Did people always create new characters for these campaigns or is there a way to bring your old character through it (without it being silly)?

They can function as stand-alone, but you can bring your existing characters through, as well. What most of us did was create a new character in those campaigns for the new professions, but also continued playing our existing characters.

I've been tinkering with this the last few weeks as well and think I may be able to pull out 30 if I empty my coffers to buy a few things. A few more weapon/armor additions and one more title and I'm there. Anyway, swtor has been distracting me a bit but I'll log into gw the next few nights (10ish EST) and see if anyone is on. Is everyone still in the NASA guild?

We are no longer in NASA (the 4 of us that are playing agian) If you want an invite into the new guild I can hook that up for you.I know Arcanis needs like 3 more minipets and he is at 30.

I found out how to get to 30, it is just going to take a bit of doing. Mainly title farming and Luxxon armor. We found a 15min vanquish that we ran 4 times last night and getting about 2 jadites each time for 3 people so I am getting jadites pretty quickly. If you want to join us we could surely use the company and I could use the jade. We also use the OO TS3 server when playing so we can talk to each other. It makes coordination to much easier. It also gives you something to do if you are running solo.

Teggy, If you bring over a character you will not be OP. In the other 2 games you reach level 20 much quicker. The place to switch to the other campaigns is Loins Arch. I would suggest you at least briefely jump into Nightfall to pick up a few heroes. That will make the game much easier than running with just henchmen.

What is this "30" you guys keep talking about? The 30 titles so you get to carry over a title?

How do I get the heroes? I have so much content to go through prior to GW2 I don't have a problem with steamrolling some of it. I just like to see the story play out.

The 30 is talking about the Hall of Monuments reward calculator. Up to 30 points you get free gear. The first few are easy but to get up to 30 points it gets kind of rough. They also give you a title in GW2.

To get heroes all you do is get to Nightfall and then you can do some quests to get the first few and then as you progress through nightfall you get more and more heroes.

Teggy wrote:What is this "30" you guys keep talking about? The 30 titles so you get to carry over a title?

Basically stuff you do in guild wars let you earn titles and items in guild wars 2. You can check your progress at http://hom.guildwars2.com. I think you can earn up to 50 points but the last item is at 30 points and it's just titles after that.

If you start a nightfalls toon you'll pick up heroes as you progress through the storyline. You can take toons from other campaigns through Nightfalls/Eye of the North to get them but I don't know at what point in their life that becomes available.

They are tied to the character you used to unlock them. But they are available for every character to unlock. If you start a new character and it is not a assassin or ritualist I suggest you start in Nightfall. But I am a fan of prophecies personally but you can't beat the getting heroes early perk.

Ack, the one thing I don't love about this game is having to restart a mission when you wipe. Once again, I put a ton of time chasing down a bonus only to get stampeded by a giant group of mobs. :grund:

Gwartok I may be taking you up on the offer for 3 of them. I need 3 more to finish my HoM.

I also have another undedicated mini pet that I have a duplicate if anyone needs. I'll post which one it is once I get in game.

edit: Ok I could use the Roaring Ether, Mursaat, and Ophil to complete my sets and have a Mandragor Imp to give away if anyone needs it.

I'll take anything anyone has extra because I don't have any :)

OK, couple of questions:

I was having trouble getting beat down in The Wilds, so I went back to Lion's Arch to pick up some level appropriate quests and see if I could level up and better armor. I picked up one quest that offered 4000XP, which I thought was quite a lot. On my out, I went past M.O.X. and talked to him, and was nicely surprised when I was now allowed to use him as a hero. So that helped quite a bit.

So I went on my way on this quest, which turned out was quite a trek, and after a while I started hitting lvl 18 mobs and then lvl 20 mobs. Was this quest actually over my level? Is there some way to figure that out? Anyway, amidst this I stumbled upon Beetletun, upgraded my armor and went back and finished off the Wilds.

Second question - I found unidentified scavenged materials, which when identified showed it had +x energy depending on which armor piece you put it on. However, I couldn't figure out how to apply it to armor. How do these work?

Thanks...

Yeah if you had mox and some high level enemies then you activated his quest set, which is above the level in that area.

When you see salvage items with some sort of property you can take a salvage kit, I'd use expert just to make sure, to get the property off of it. It will either be a rune or insignia (each can potentially have one of each). That can then be applied to a piece of armor (again max of 1 rune and 1 insignia).

Bah - been working my way through and now have failed twice on Aurora Glade, once because I didn't realize there was a timer at play and once because I died trying to make it to the bonus. Having to redo entire missions because of failure is a bit rough.

Let us know the next time you are running it and we may be able to join you.

Well I'm now poor in GW. price of rubies dropped a couple of days ago so I bought 11, then sapphires dropped to day so I got 10 there. I now have under 4 plat to my name when last week I was at 165. Fortunately I only need like 2 more sapphires and 20 plat for my vabian armor which will net me 2 more points in HoM. After that all i need is to pick up those 3 minis from gwartok and I'll have my 30 in HoM.

Ditto, add Sir Loin Beef to your friends list. What's your toons name? Check the GW wiki too, it has very helpful builds/strategies for running missions.

Fortunately I only need like 2 more sapphires and 20 plat for my vabian armor which will net me 2 more points in HoM. After that all i need is to pick up those 3 minis from gwartok and I'll have my 30 in HoM.

I probably won't be on this weekend but when is a good time to catch you on? We can hook up next week and get you those minis. I might be able to spare some plat too, I'll have about 150 left after my next two armor sets and I just need one more weapon after that...
