I hadn't seen that. Thanks!

As they were all being introduced and walking out, I thought to myself, "Did they HAVE to sit Peter Dinklage next to Jason Momoa??" I don't suppose it would have made much difference anyway, but it cracked me up.

Also, Momoa is hilarious.

Do not read the linked article unless you have read at least the first three books of A Song of Ice and Fire.

I agree with just about everything stated in that article.

Also, I feel a need to re-post what I think is still the best trailer they've done (way back before season 1).

Yup, ol' Charlie Jane nailed it as usual - it's going to be hellishly challenging, but not at all insurmountable. In light of the brilliant job they did in Season 1, I'm optimistic that they can pull off Season 2 just as well.

And I cannot WAIT until episode 9.

I hadn't seen the before. I have to say I agree with your opinion of it, considering I've now watched Season 1 through to completion twice and yet that trailer gave me goosebumps.

What a good show. The new season is just 4 Sundays away!

Is that a real trailer or maybe one for another country? At the end it says premiering April 17th. Here in the US it is April 1st. Confused?

Don't forget that we set our clocks ahead this week. That might explain it.

It's a US trailer for season 1, which debuted 4/17/11.

Clicking this led to a loop of interviews which were very informative and enjoyable. This one was a good one to watch after completing the first season or could be a "convincer" to invest the time to watch the first season.

All those juicy video links, and not a single response? Let me try again.

Destinations of Season 2 - including some nice looks at the Painted Table, Pyke, Harrenhal, etc.

New Faces of Season 2 - the Halfhand, Balon Greyjoy, Melisandre, and others.

I cannot overstate how stoked I am for season 2. And I get to see the first episode tomorrow night at a movie theater!

I'm too lazy to watch videos. I know, that makes me an atypical internet user these days.

I'm really looking forward to Season 2 as well. This week I need to go find out whether Verizon is having a free trial on HBO. If not, I suppose I'll sign up for it regardless, but free would be better (especially the way they keep jacking their fees).

Some lucky timing responding to a Game of Thrones message on Facebook got me into an advance screening of season 2's first episode last night. Here's a quick AAR.

We arrived at the Landmark around 6:30 for the 8 PM showing, thinking we'd beat most folks. We were wrong--the line was a solid 50-100 strong when we arrived.

HBO reps made their way down the line checking names against the guest list and handing out wristbands and drink tickets. (Free popcorn and beer? Way to go, HBO!) Around 7 we were let into the building.

We skipped the photo booth, as it wasn't very exciting--a flaming background and a few swords and crowns as props--and we were more interested in securing good seats for the show. Had the Iron Throne made an appearance I would have taken advantage.

After procuring popcorn and a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, we went in and got seated. There was a cosplay contest before the show; here are the contestants:

The dude on the right playing Patchface won an iPad 2 for his troubles, in a close final against a Stone Crow woman (2nd from left in pic; hard to make her out). Everyone also got a scratch-off ticket to win a choice of swag including T-shirts, branded thermos', calendars, DVDs, etc. Unfortunately I didn't win (my ticket read 'sorry, you're going to the Wall').

But who cares about swag? I was there to see episode 11!

The show began with this 6-minute recap of season 1. I have to say this trailer was very cool on a theater screen with theater sound in the midst of a huge crowd of ASoIaF enthusiasts.

The screen faded to black and the opening credit sequence burst onto the scene. A lot more entries in the credits this year!

Non-spoilery thoughts on episode 11:

Holy shit. Season 2 picks up right where S1 left off without missing a beat. As expected there are some liberties taken with specific scenes, but the core themes of the beginning of A Clash of Kings are all there. Some scenes seemed almost verbatim from the book, as well. I was not disappointed with this episode at all.

Spoilery thoughts on episode 11:
Spoiler:
I wasn't sure about the castings of Stannis, Davos, or Melisandre. I no longer have doubts. All three actors did a great job, IMO.

The CGI dragons and direwolves didn't have a ton of screen time, but in all cases I thought they were well-done. Holy crap, large direwolves are intimidating.

More sexposition; ugh. But it's HBO; I'll cut them a little slack in this dept.

Dinklage: yeah, he's gonna win another Emmy.

They managed to make Craster's Keep just as creepy and heeby-jeeby-inducing as it should be.

Here's my attempt to add HBO Go to my Comcast (Internet-only) account. I didn't expect stellar results, but hoped they'd at least be able to direct me to a basic TV package and then let me add HBO. No can do.

There is nothing "basic" about any cable/dish/u-verse account. It is designed that way on purpose.

I feel your pain.
I wanted to add a single channel to watch the Walking Dead finale... sadly bell didn't want to do that unless I add the whole package (that I don't want or need) for 20$.

So yeah, I went to my local torrent and watched it anyway.

Packages are fine but sometimes I want only one channel, please let me do that, you'll get my money!!

Yay! It's finally here. This is just a friendly reminder to you folks who have read the books: please use spoiler tags for anything that reveals the story beyond the television show (a policy you've been following admirably as of late). Or warn me that you're not going to so I can avoid this thread. Thanks!

That was a pretty decent premiere. Certainly hit all the key notes and whetted my appetite for what's to come. If I have a concern, it's how incredibly splintered the show is already, and how much worse that's going to get in season 2 and beyond. Nobody gets enough screen time, because there are so many other stories to tell in so many other parts of the world. I can't see that NOT becoming a problem.

I agree, it's going to be tricky, but The Wire was able to pull off something similar. It can be done, it's just not easy.

The best compliment I can give to the first episode is that it felt like the story never took a break. I looked down at the clock and it was 9:40 pm in the blink of an eye. I'm so glad it's back and I'm already annoyed I have to wait a week for another episode. :)

I was surprised to hear that they've changed the title theme. Most surprising is the fact that I haven't seen anyone else mention this so far, so it caught me completely flat-footed. The changes aren't exactly massive, but they are noticeable. I suspect I'll prefer this new version as it sounds more natural and dynamic than the original, which was made in a hurry.

Good episode. The part at the end (you know what I'm talking about) was pretty gruesome to watch. I wonder how many viewers they'll lose to that particular scene alone.
Insert witty comment here.
