There are 6 songs you unlock over the course of the game, but I don't think Sweet Home Alabama is one of them. Not sure why you're just now seeing it.

I just put two and a half hours into the Combo 3 version of Hanger 18, and there's just one blasted section that I can't get to 100%. It's painful.

New DLC today!

Space Oddity - David Bowie
Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
Barracuda - Heart

They haven't released a large amount of DLC yet, but the songs available so far have all been pretty awesome selections Image

I just have to work on spending more time with the game and building my skills to actually play them...

Patch!

1. The user is now able to select ‘Songs’ from the Multiplayer Post Play screen, allowing them to select a new song without having to re-calibrate the guitar each time
2. A fix has been entered to disqualify any Guitarcade Game score that was gotten through exploitation of the Pause Button. A warning message appears on the Pause Screen informing the user that pausing the game again will disqualify their score from the leaderboards
3. The amount of lives that the user has in Riff Repeater has been increased to 30 when selected from Event Manager or Song selection.
4. The user is now able to invoke the precision tuner before quick-tuning in any song or event, excluding multiplayer
5. The user is now able to select their own “Phrase Mastery” level in the Pause Menu of Riff Repeater activities. Completing the phrase on the set level carries that progress into the full song, unless the new phrase level is LOWER than what has actually been achieved naturally
6. The user can now start new songs at a HIGHER phrase level if they are good enough (Level 7 as opposed to Level 5), and they can also level up high-level phrases with fewer correct repetitions
7. A fix has been implemented so that the “Satisfaction” Single Note arrangement can be unlocked for Master Mode
8. A fix has been implemented so that the “Do You Remember” Chord arrangement can be unlocked for Master Mode.
9. Lag Correction will be a new feature in the Options menu to adjust the difference between sound and how fast notes appear
10. General stability improvements to fix crashes

Awesome! All welcome additions, especially the 30 lives for the rift repeater (although I wish they would just get rid of lives all together).

I thought that too, but I played through a couple of solos using Riff Repeater last night and after about 15-20 attempts I was DONE. 30 lives is plenty.

This may be the difference I needed to get back into the game. As a newbie guitar player, I need more repetition and was just too hard to get in the game. Now to just find the time.

I'm interested in Rocksmith but not $200 interested. I'll keep my eye on it.

I got Rocksmith for Christmas and borrowed my brother's guitar - only to discover it was missing a string.

A new set of strings arrived last night and after stabbing myself several times (damn those ends are sharp) I was able to get the new string on.

I've never held a guitar before so I'm a complete beginner. After playing for an hour I can now almost pick out the riff in "Satisfaction."

Great fun.

Next time I break a string I'm going to be very tempted to pick up a set of these Rocksmith Colored Strings

Fortunately no one other than my daughter will ever see my guitar.

That's a cool idea, but criminy those are expensive. I usually pay around $5 for a pack of electric strings, sometimes $12-$13 for a 3-pack. I wonder if the color coating helps them last any longer than usual?

The color string combo comes fast. RYBOGP

I can't even remember the names of the strings, but that's definitely the color order :)

Yeah, I spent $3.50 for the strings I bought on Amazon.

Maybe it would be chepaer to buy 6 colored sharpies. :P

That company's gauges run awfully small. I play with 12s . . . I can't imagine running with 9s. I'd probably break the top three strings on my first strum.

I finally managed to get 100% mastery all every section of a song yesterday (House of the Rising Sun). Granted, it's a pretty easy song (the chord version, at least) and I don't think the game detects all that well when the song requires quick strumming and chord changes, but I'll take it. Now it's just a matter of getting it down consistently so I can impress the womens at the next party. :horse:

I believe I did that on Song 2 first. Half the song is just playing an octave over and over :P

Pfft. It's like playing with yarn after the 13s on my acoustic.

[edit] - Not to imply that there's anything inherently better about thicker strings (well, maybe awesome boominess), aside from a decreased tendency for my ham handed strumming to snap them.

I can barely bend notes on my acoustic with 11s. I can't imagine trying to play an electric with 12s. My Strat would probably snap in half.

I've been playing Rocksmith for about an hour a day for two weeks now and I've already made amazing progress. I've gone from someone who has never played guitar to someone who can play along to several songs and even manage the occasional chord.

I posted about 231k on master mode Unnatural Selection tonight, and thought I was pretty salty. Then I downloaded Painkiller, and realized that I can't even play the damn rhythm guitar part in a Judas Priest song.

I had a rough week at work and then I went out of town this weekend, so I wasn't able to pick this up until this evening. I've only done Message in a Bottle so far, but the whole pack is worth it for that song alone. The sus2 chords destroy whatever muscle exists between my thumb and my index finger, though . . . I'm going to have to work that song in every half hour or so just so I can work that thing out. The tone from that song is pretty nice, too, if I were going to use Rocksmith as a faux amp.

I managed to unlock master mode on Message (combo 1) and A More Perfect Union (single note) tonight. That speaks volumes about Rocksmith's ability to teach new skills, because I could never have accomplished the arpeggios in those songs when I started back in October. It's pretty much my favorite game ever.

I was doing well on Message in a Bottle until I got to about 90% on the main riff and had to do that stretch across 4 frets. OUCH.

Synchronocity II has the same half dozen parts repeated for the whole song, but it's all over the neck which I really like. Very fun to play.

I can't recall if I noticed this before, and I'm too lazy to search for myself these days, but I guess they implemented a bit where if you're <X> level, they assume you can deal with certain difficulties of a song by default. I downloaded the Offspring pack tonight (A: Because I couldn't log into Diablo III and B: Because I feel compelled to get all non-terrible DLC [3 Doors Down, I frown upon you] in an effort to ensure more of it), and queued up Gone Away, and was chagrined to see that I had already maxed out the song before I played it. Sure, it's pretty easy, but sight reading the noodling bits is still pretty rough . . . especially given the terrible key that it's in. Eb is the worst of all chords.

This is still my game of the century. I should probably make that my signature.

I would pay money for an update to Rocksmith that fixed the Accelerator trainer mode. As it stands I believe it still requires you to hit every single note in a particular section, and actually stops the song mid-note when you miss something. How that "feature" ever made it in is beyond me. You can miss notes in the Leveler mode, you don't get a higher difficulty until you get it right. Why not make Accelerator the same way? Let me play the section slowed down, and let me miss notes. Don't go faster until I get the lick right. Stopping right in the middle of a lick because I missed something is ridiculous.

Yes, and I thought I heard that the bass DLC would be $29.99. I certainly hope I don't have to pay that to get the "patch" side of things with the new accelerator modes. I have no bass guitar, so not dying to get the bass DLC, but I would love to get the general software improvements.

I'm very confused about it all, too.

They're patching which I assume is free.

They're releasing the DLC for owners of the original game for $X

I also read they're re-releasing the entire game (including the new Bass DLC) for the same price as the original and offering some sort of discount to original owners... or something.

So far they seem to be referring to the Aug 14th patch and the Aug 14th Bass DLC as two separate entities, so perhaps they will each be unique downloads.

I don't recall where I saw that the price of the Bass DLC was $30, but I do remember that number and a lot of grumbling that later purchasers were going to get it for free, whereas "people who supported Rocksmith from the beginning were getting screwed". Or something to that effect.

I did see that the Bass DLC will be playable on a regular guitar, but I have my doubts as to how well that will work. There are an awful lot of techniques that are unique to the size and string gauge of a bass.

The game can't tell if you're using those techniques, though. All it can see are frequencies.
