It started on 6/30 last year (a Thursday), so if they keep the same pattern, it should be 6/28 this year.

In my panic to decide before time ran out, I failed to notice that the original DRM is still on Spore. I haven't installed it yet, but I believe it has always on connection to EA servers, plus a somewhat obnoxious EULA, although not particularly moreso than others.

So I'm saddled with DRM that I never would have bought if I had been paying attention. Worse, I suspect that Dark Spore has the same DRM. I have no excuse for missing that one. Spore is a game I've wanted to check out for awhile, so I guess in my excitement to pick it up for 5 bucks I was not as diligent as usual.

Mea Culpa.

I've seen situations where STEAM will issue refunds over DRM issues. Certainly not on your 4-way gift pack, but you could always try to contact them over Spore. What do you have to lose?

I'll confirm the DRM this weekend, then talk to Steam.

It *looks* like it only phones home if you want to participate in content sharing. I didn't make an EA account and therefore some of the sharing aspects are cut off from me. Which is fine with me.

The cheapening of Intellectual Property by putting both Darkspore and Spore and it's expansions on sale for 5 bucks each had me giving EA 30 bucks. I bought a 4 pack of Darkspore and 1 copy of Spore with the 2 addon thingies. Without that sale EA wouldn't have a dime of my money.

In short, EA (by proxy through a VP) is dumb.

It's "ok". It has an interesting game play mechanic but it feels a bit clunky. Graphic quality is good but certain animations feel unfinished in places (For example, instead of a turn animation you just flip from left to right) and the physics are not as tight as you would expect. $5 is reasonable but I wouldn't pay full price.

No worries. I've seen multiple people in multiple locations asking. Precedent puts the Summer Sale starting on the last Thursday in June. Which means tomorrow, if they follow form. If that isn't it, then the next best guess is wildly rampant speculation. :)
