School shooting (elementary) in CT

Post by msduncan »

Developing story...breaking across all networks. Reports of a masked gunman.
It's 109 first team All-Americans.
It's a college football record 61 bowl appearances.
It's 34 bowl victories.
It's 24 Southeastern Conference Championships.
It's 15 National Championships.

At some places they play football. At Alabama we live it.

CNN broke that the suspect is dead on scene.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Seriously people can we go at least a week without shooting something up?

Multiple ambulances on scene. Multiple tactical units on scene. Entire school district on lockdown.

Locally here in Alabama, Chelsey Middle school on lockdown due to threat. (always brings out the crazies).

Reports seem pretty scattered. It always seems that they report more then one gunman and generally that's not the case.

The radio here said it occurred at an administrative meeting and they made it sound like "just" a disgruntled employee thing. Hopefully the reports of everyone else being shot are incorrect.

I can't even bring myself to look into it. It's all over FB, just scanned through and now removing it from the window. I will pray and send out well wishes to those immediately affected. Sending out comfort for everyone else... including myself. Actually turned off the Christmas music today and have on some Ravi Shankar to help balance out the mind and body.

They really need to be careful about reporting fatalities. Some sites are reporting multiple fatalities, but I'm sure they don't have any real concrete details at this point.

Local news says shooter is dead and at least a dozen shot in the school..some of those children. This shit is horrible. What is WRONG with people?? They gravitate to crowded places..malls...schools. These children did nothing to anyone. They were simply looking forward to Christmas. Really really horrible. I think schools are going to need to be locked down during the school days from now on.

Reports that are rolling in are getting worse and worse. Hopefully it's a lot of misinformation as I'm seeing reports of 12+ killed. :(

This.

The reporting on this right now is terribly spotty and news organizations need to do verification of information with police in a position of knowledge rather than repeat rumors (and yes, first responders tend to end up in telephone operator-style communications lapses in these situations, too).

You've got CNN reporting 3 dead, all adults, including the shooter. CNN quotes the local hospital saying they've treated 3 patients and do not expect more.

NBC is saying things are worse, and at least one child may have died.

CBS News just said that they have an unconfirmed report of...I won't repeat the number, because it's so out of whack with everyone else's....but it's a lot.

Ya well more and more are reporting that number. :( Especially when kids are involved they shouldn't be reporting numbers like this until they know the real details. I can only imagine what the kids and parents are going through right now. Horrible.

If multiple networks are reporting it, it sounds like the information is credible.

They numbers just keep on going up and up. I really don't even want to report the numbers I'm seeing now. There are some seriously sick people out there.

CNN's still saying "close to 20 slain" - which was upgraded from "2 killed" a few minutes ago.

This is un-f**king-believable. I'm very sad and very angry.

I expect laws to change somehow (and probably for the worse) because of this. I don't know how you can stop crazy people from getting guns. Even making them illegal will just mean crazy people have to do something illegal before they do something very illegal.

Watching CNN, they've changed it to 27 which matches everyone else.

How about recognizing that we have an enormous problem with mental health care in this country? That's where the reforms need to start, IMO.

Absolutely horrible and tragic situation there. I can hardly believe the reports I'm seeing.

If the reports are true that nearly 100 rounds were fired from 2 handguns, I know where they can start.

I enjoy recreational shooting, but I sure can't wrap my head around any case being made for high capacity ammo magazines for civilian weapons.

We can't seem to agree to spend money on healthcare very well, but we're always more than happy to outlaw something. Mental Health reforms would last until an election or two later, when the politicians needed to cut something in order to spend more elsewhere.

Watching this on the news right now... there are no words that can adequately describe how horrific this is. Having this happen to elementary school kids, the same age range that my two daughters are in, makes this even more unsettling for me. I can't imagine being one of those parents.

Fuck.
