Need a birthday present

Post by Two Sheds »

I'm going to a birthday shindig for a friend of mine this coming weekend. She's the roommate/friend of a friend of mine from school. I don't really know her know her, but I've gone out with them a few times to bars or parties, hung out with her a couple of times. So anyway, it's her birthday.

Oh yeah, and she's pretty hot, and I'm trying to get up the nerve to ask her out.

So I'm thinking I'll get her a present, partly because of the above and partly because, well, it's her birthday and that's usually the thing to do. Only I don't know her well enough to know what to get. I need something that says "Hey, I think you're cute and you seem like a fun person, want to get a bite to eat some time? If not, that's cool, I'm not desperate or anything."

I'm thinking a bottle of wine. That seems a safe choice.

On the safe side, Id reccomend a not to pricey wine (NOT Merlot) or a neat little plant.

On the riske side, Id recommend something youll both need later on.

Buy two 40s of OE and a funnel.

Ok, yeah... wine is safe. Go middle of the road red, sub $20 or you look like a pretentious prick, or a desperate loser, and you don't want her catching on to that too quickly... or ask someone who knows her if she prefers white.

Nothing says "Hey...you. I'm a cool guy you could have fun with," like a box of wine.

My roommate in college called boxed wine 'Pussy Insurance'.

Hey, HE did it, not me.

Most women like things from Bath & Body. Go into B&B and get her one of the gift packs.

The problem with that is that it lets her know you are thinking about her taking a shower... it's more of a 'once you are dating' or 'one chick buys another chick' kind of gift... I think he's gotta go pretty casual and friendly at this time. So it's booze or porno.

Get her some Grey Goose vodka.

Get her drunk.

And put it in her butt.

Seriously, if you don't know her well, buy her a drink or three and nothing more really. Me, I probaby wouldn't even get her a card, but I would look for the excuse to invite her out to a show (music, play, comedy, movie, whatever) and a dinner as a birthday present in the near future. You need to know and insert something she really likes for the show. Assuming you do it right, she will come whether she wants a date or not. After all, it is symbolic of a birthday gift. When you go out get her something small that is meaningful to her personality as a reminder that the gesture is birthday gift. You get to have one date and test the waters with each other without the pressure of it being a date. If things go right your in. If things go poorly, it was just a night out. No harm, no foul.

Outside. On the curb. In the rain.

At least, that's been my experience.

Yeah, they don't tend to like it when you're wearing it though. It's best if you give it to them in a nice box or something

I was thinking more along the line of you telling her that her birthday present is a nice dinner at fill in the blank restaurant and a night of fun at fill in the blank activity
