Longmire Cancelled
What the fuck was A&E thinking? Good ratings, good reviews, good show.

The word is that the producing studio is already shopping it around for a new home. Its likely to land somewhere.
Well do you ever get the feeling that the story's too damn real and in the present tense?
Or that everybody's on the stage and it seems like you're the only person sitting in the audience?

Re: Longmire Cancelled
Does it have solid character-based serial storytelling, or is it a more traditional episodic procedural? It's one of the shows I was thinking of giving a try, as it's available on Canadian Netflix meaning I can watch it on my phone. (There are a ton of awesome shows on international Netflix variants I can access via Hola VPN on my desktop, but I can't watch those from bed. )
I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

I'd describe it as a mix. Each episode has a crime to solve but there are running story lines for various characters.Sudy Nym wrote:Does it have solid character-based serial storytelling, or is it a more traditional episodic procedural? We (my spousal unit and I) watch it on streaming Netflix and enjoyed it enough to start reading the books.

WTF?! This is a great show and I understood that it had great ratings for A&E. Don't understand this at all!

Wikipedia says they want to move to producing everything in-house.

Re: Longmire Cancelled
I'm a couple episodes into season 2, and really enjoying it! The characters are compelling, and there's just enough serialization to keep it interesting. I don't find it addictive like a good serial show, but it evolves enough to put it in the domain of excellent procedurals like House. I hope it does indeed get picked up; no news yet.

They don't want shows that appeal to "old" people, it's not their target demographic.

Yeah I heard a report about that on NPR. Old people are a bad advertising demographic.em2nought wrote:They don't want shows that appeal to "old" people, it's not their target demographic.

Re: Longmire Cancelled
Honestly the books are great but can be very different from the show so don't expect things to line up or, in some cases, even be close. The books cover a much larger time span with some vastly different supporting characters but the show really captured the "essence" of the books. I hope it does really well on Netflix and gets enough of a following to continue past season 4. Right now it appears they are wrapping up season 4 - episode 4 and the next season will probably be released in the late Oct-Nov time-frame. Also appears that the majority of the same people will be in the new season with a couple saying no comment so the continuation of season 3's cliffhanger isn't spoiled.

Wife and I are just starting to get into Season 5 and it's got me trying to recall one certain thing from last season. Remember pretty much all of the bits, but cannot for the life of me recall why Starb... errr, Vic... is limping. Can someone spoiler that for me? Not having any luck googling it up.

Just finished season 5, looking forward to the next one.
I watch them too fast.
The thread title startled me at first until I recalled it had been cancelled on another network.

Sorry, didn't want it lost in the other general Netflix topic and this was the only one I could find that was Longmire specific.

Re: Longmire Cancelled
We need to re-watch the last episode. I recall bits and pieces but in no particular order. And since it's been a while since I either saw the show or read one of the books, I get some things a little confused.

This thread gave me quite a scare until I realized it was first started 2 years ago
But yeah, I had totally forgotten what had happened between season 4 and 5. Seemed to be a longer wait than usual. I kind of wish they'd do a recap in this case. But the way the show is structured, it kind of benefits from easing viewers back into it.

There is a recap, if you scroll down to the end of the episodes list there is a Season 5 trailer and a Season 4 recap. A real... condensed one.Rumpy wrote:This thread gave me quite a scare until I realized it was first started 2 years ago

Re: Longmire Cancelled
Just finished watching (sadfully) the last season on Netflix. I appreciate them picking the series up and keeping it running for another 3 years.
I have to say, the last episode and how they closed out the arcs of each of the major characters was great, probably the best "last show" of any series I've watched. Not unlike a video game, each got a brief vignette showing the next stage of their lives and I thought it was pretty cool and unique for a TV show. Each of the characters went through a lot of changes through the years from where we found them when the series began, and I think they each earned their respective endings. And the very last shot of Walt was a recognition of an "in joke" all the way through the series.= and was very funny.
I'll miss this one.

Firmly in the "very good wrap-up" camp. Glad to see them get a chance to do that all proper-like and not just... end.
