No idea what I am going to do with season 3, but I have all but the survivors in one giant toolbox. Survivors are in a fuzzbox.

Wonder if season 3 would fit as well. Tempting, anything to take up less space. Anything. I'll likely wait until the rest of my stuff arrives before figuring out a better solution.coopasonic wrote:https://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/16640884#16640884Chrisoc13 wrote:I have no idea what to do with zombicide. In terms of kickstarters I noticed an interesting one was recently launched:
I won't be backing it, the lowest pledge is $80 and the one with the deluxe game and kickstarter exclusive stuff etc. is $125 which is way too high for a pre-order essentially of a cooperative game. But once it is widely released I look forward to giving it a try.

I read on BGG that the Broken Token folks are looking at a box insert. I'm holding out hope they can come up with a storage solution.

Trickerion - Legends of Illusion ~$50
Seems like a cool worker placement game with a twist. It only has support for up to four players though so I'm out.

Re: Kickstarter 2015
I've still got my first edition with the sixth player pieces. It's a very solid game. One of the big problems is that the specialist figures are really hard to pick out amongst all the other ones. I don't think the different shaped bases will do anything to help that, but it won't be any worse. I think the board design is super bland, and I'll take the original one any day, dead space and all.
I can't imagine, even at my most inebriated, hearing a bouncer offering me an hour with a stripper for only $1,400 and thinking That sounds like a reasonable idea.-Two Sheds

Re: Kickstarter 2015
I looked at a comparison screenshot of the two boards. The new one was definitely easier to read but I don’t think either looks particularly good. Some people in the comments were suggesting keeping the left side of the new board and putting the right side of the original back with the new improvements to add some additional color.

Re: Kickstarter 2015
Oh, the first edition definitely isn't a great board either, I just think it looks better. Actually that whole game has a bunch of problems where the components kind of get in the way of the game itself sometimes. From what I can see, the new version won't do a ton to fix those problems. I'm not convinced the player boards and colonist space overlays are really necessary, and both are probably contributing to that $100 price point.
This is definitely a game that would be as good or better if the plastic was replaced with wooden cubes or cardboard counters.

I have the original Eagle Games version, and it's a pretty good game, but $100?!. I'm not sure I own a board game that I'd consider to be worth that much money, unless I'd spent my own time hand-painting it or something. I think my copy of AoEIII cost me about $35. I like the possibilities Kickstarter creates, but KS board game prices are getting ridiculous.Lordnine wrote:Age of Empires III Reprint/Rebrand with expansion ~ $100

I am rather intrigued by the $5 metal coin add-on, though. I wonder if there's a way to get just that part.

Re: Kickstarter 2015
I agree, the original is a fine game (pretty good, actually), but $100 seems a bit too much. It will likely cost $50-75 at an online retailer once finished, so it seems like a big "wait and see."

Re: Kickstarter 2015
Sadly, it's getting to the point where I'm basically shocked to see a game on Kickstarter that's under $100. I definitely agree that AoE3 is a really solid game, but definitely not worth $100.
I was pretty close to backing Trickerion, which is a worker placement game set in the Victorian magician scene. It sounds interesting, looks really nice, has a rulebook available, and is a really simple campaign, asking $50 for the base game, or $60 with two small expansions (shipping included in both).
I couldn't bring myself to actually back it though. I've got too many games that barely get played as it is.

Since there's been a bit of this mentioned here lately--not all tabletop projects have gotten expensive. There are definitely a lot of high-dollar projects, but I've backed a bunch of cheaper stuff relatively recently: Exploding Kittens, Tiny Epic Galaxies, Dead Man's Draw, Trekking the Nat'l Parks (ok, this one wasn't cheap), Yardmaster Express, Pairs, Draco Magi, Ultimate Werewolf...Chaz wrote:Sadly, it's getting to the point where I'm basically shocked to see a game on Kickstarter that's under $100.

Re: Kickstarter 2015
Some may pooh pooh my annoyance with that issue, so take my opinion for what it is...an opinion.
Buuuutttttt...
Eagle supposedly (and that's up for debate) got word from the designer's (Vlaada) company that they were working on a new version. Eagle almost immediately started a kickstarter for a new print run of the version for which they had the license. The problem being that many folks believe they actually already had that print run ordered (or even produced), and that they were using the kickstarter to simply get rid of the copies they had/were expecting before Vlaada's company could get the word out that a new version was coming.
One of the customer reps for Vlaada's company posted quite a bit in the comments section of the Eagle kickstarter and on BGG outlining all this. It caused some bad blood before it was over.
You can follow along here. The poster named Lenka is the customer rep for Vlaada's company.
Even if they weren't alerted to a new edition of TTA coming down the pike, I still think it was crappy for a company to use Kickstarter to clear out stock (all the stretch goals were older games).

I just cancelled my exploding kittens pledge. Feels good. Not that it won't be a good game, but it feels good to actually so no to a kickstarter! I'm sure it is interesting, but I really don't need the NSFW deck, and $35 is too rich for my blood for that game. Looking forward to trying other people's though and maybe picking up a copy of the normal game later.

Re: Kickstarter 2015
I'm letting Exploding Kittens go. It looks like fun, but it is cheap enough that I'd want to back it at the 'NSFW' level, which I just can't afford. It also likely isn't a game I'd be able to play much with the kids. Not because of the content, but because games where early elimination happens just aren't popular with them.

I'm waiting on:
The rest of Zombicide season 3 (delayed due to west coast shipping issues at this point) hopefully will get it in a couple months though.
Galaxy Defenders (coming in May it sounds like, ugh right when I am moving so hopefully they get the address right if I need to change it)
Mercs- Who knows.
That's really it for big board games and I'm probably about done with big KS.

Thanks for reminding me to cancel Exploding Kittens. Still nothing backed this year!
Outstanding Board Games:
I Hate Zombies $8 - *shrug* it was $8. It's a card game so at least it won't take much room!
Hostage Negotiator $35 - solo only game, the world needs more of these
Galaxy Defenders: Earth Strikes Back $99 - not that bad, right? Sure, I've only played the original 3 times, but I might play more!
Zombicide Season 3 $145 - why do I keep doing this?
XenoShyft Onslaught $80 - meh, regret, but could be worse. I'll probably resell it if there is a market for it. I have Legendary Encounters for this particular itch.
MERCS: Recon $220 - ugh... just ugh.

Kickstarted the Pebble Time smart watch with a color screen today. Delivery date is May 2015. Not surprisingly, it's another hit -- $7.2 million in the first day.
The biggest selling points -- daylight readable color screen, 7 days battery life (not hours), microphone, new clean interface, thinner, and compatible with existing apps. Take that, Apple iWatch!
Wireless diabetes medical devices have also started to take advantage of the bluetooth pebble feature, so my old watch will still get use.

Plug coming up!
My friend Daniel Berger has designed a game, now on Kickstarter, called Hands in the Sea, set during the First Punic War. It’s inspired by Martin Wallace’s A Few Acres of Snow. It’s a two-player deckbuilding wargame, and has been playtested to death, so we are fairly certain that there’s no Halifax Hammer exploit. Dan also designed Caesar's Gallic War, a well-regarded, if little-known block wargame.
Hands in the Sea is really good, and I readily admit to being a playtester.

I have a Battle Bear!
One of the sillier things I've backed, I'll admit. This was part of a Kickstarter to basically get an unofficial Warhammer 40k Squat army, includeing the fabled War Train. This bear rider wasn't part of the main campaign but I asked the dev to make a substitution and it looks like he just threw it in for free instead, so kudos to him.
As for the quality of the models themselves, the detail is really nice but there is quite a lot of excessive plastic from the molding procedure. I'm sure they will look nice when cleaned up and painted but not quite the quality you would expect from a big manufacturer.

As for the quality of the models themselves, the detail is really nice but there is quite a lot of excessive plastic from the molding procedure. I'm sure they will look nice when cleaned up and painted but not quite the quality you would expect from a big manufacturer.

Ouch, shipping not included. I love the look of the game and Lang is a solid designer, but they'll have to add a lot of kickstarter exclusives to make it worthwhile for me.

I’m really hoping for a 5th player expansion. I backed it to get the early bird discount but will probably drop out if that option doesn’t materialize. My group always runs at least 5-6 so any game with less than that doesn’t get much playtime at my house.

I'll look at this more when I'm at home. I liked A Few Acres of Snow, but this subject matter interests me more.SpaceLord wrote:Plug coming up!
BTW, Glenn Drover posted on his FB page some miniatures used for a Napoleonic game under construction. I offered to lend a hand playtesting when the time comes (I live a lot closer to him now so I just have to escape baby duty).
