My internet and cable situation is about to improve!!!

The FCC has lifted restrictions on providing cable and internet in my state and county Im in is partnering with the fast one next door. We have been limited to Charter for over a decade. No one else was allowed in. And the EPB who provides service in the county over could not cross county lines, Now they can and our power provider is already partnering with them. What this means is I can get better for cheaper.

With Charter we pay $200 a month for mid level tv, good phone, and the best internet they have which is a crappy 60 down and 4 up. They promised us $141 a month but they keep creeping up and after fixing it 12 or more times I gave up. When EPB arrives..not IF but WHEN now....I can get better for cheaper.

EPB has best tv with HD and DVRs, best phone with free long distance, and 100 meg down and 100 meg up for $155. If I want to go up to 1000 meg down and 1000 meg up thats just $10 more so $165 a month. The good part is our area already has fiber optic ran so its ready. I bet Charter is shitting their pants right now. I called EPB and signed up my name and address and will be one of the first ones because lucky me I live closest to that line. They would not give any info at all of a guesstimate even when they will do this but a only soon with a smile in her voice

I am stoked. 1 gig net with tv and phone for less than I pay now. Ahhh hell yes!

The knuckleheads in our state gov are fighting this. The main guy is actually suing the FCC now!

God do I hate idiots. Thanks to their big business connections and true stupidity when it comes to broadband they would rather someone such as me pay more money for less received rather than the other way around. The stupidity is rampant in Nashville.

I would think it's called "kickbacks" (or taxes which go with higher costs) vice stupidity. But that's just guessing, because what other legitimate reason would there be to fight this.

From what I read online is stupidity of broadband and how it works. Ive seen where they watch videos on it and think its the right thing and come to find it was big communications that provided that same video.

With our's though Im almost certain its because our's is both mean and stupid.

I pay like $60 for 3 down and .5 up. Well, actually I pay for like 6/1 but never even approach that. And that's internet only. No cable, phone, etc.

Would I pay triple that for 20 times the speed? In an instant.

Most what I and everyone else wanted was cheaper costs. Our locals charge us crazy cause they can. We could have gotten more for less. So much is wrong here between the big communications companies being the ones who helped write these laws and lobbying them to our gov not listening to its own citizens and using tax dollars in ways we dont want used. Ive concluded we are a slave country. We have to pay ourt taxes and do what we are told or are punished with no voice in anything.

Next voting time...whether it helps or not....Im voting AGAINST every incumbent no matter who or what they are.

But would you be happy to pay triple when it cost what you are currently paying if the law would only allow the next county to service you? And the next county wants to and can service you.

Even if I lived in Georgia which is basically part of Chattanooga really.....I still couldn't get EPB if it was just 10' away because it is in TN. The North Coralina law is maybe worse. They have a HUGE outdated law where..I cant remember numbers so Ill make some up.....if you have access to 0.0001 meg down then a faster place cannot service you. I think the real number was like 1/10 a meg.

That's not unique to TN. Here they carve up service areas and you pay or don't play.

The problem is national and it's based on an antiquated model.

My friend in Moscow pays about $9.50/month for ~85Mbit/sec (both down AND up). Add another $2.60 for cable TV package of about 150 channels. When I told her what we pay here for Comcast and DirecTV, she was speechless. For them, there are many things they can't afford (Moscow is very expensive to live in, and the rest of Russia is just plain poor to afford things), but internet, cable and stuff like cell phones are almost universally affordable.

Achievement unlocked. Comcast disconnect phone call accomplished in 5 minutes or less. The secret (as found via google), was to claim that I was moving but do not yet have a forwarding address. It breaks their rubrik and they have no opportunities to send you to retention.

We're finally getting something faster than North Korea at the mini storage, and we don't have to pay $6000 to run the line to us. Just have to sign up for an expensive package and reduce it before thirty days(supposedly). We will see!

I got a flyer in the mail yesterday, Gbit service plus TV for $150/mo. I went online with their promo code and saw they have 300Mbit + TV + phone (yes, my wife demands a landline) for $150/mo for 24 months with 12 month commitment. After all the extras (extra receivers and HD fee) it comes out to $178/mo. That's $45/mo less than I have been paying for the same service with 12Mbit internet. 25x faster internet and you'll take $45 off my bill? Yeah, ok, I'll take that. It would have been $30/mo more for Gbit. That just seems unnecessary.

The flip side of it is that I had to agree to let them spy on my internet activity and target ads at me. Because they aren't doing that now?
