Sounds like all they announced is the announcement. But still, this is welcomed news. :D

Interesting. Looking at a full sized version of the image, I'm thinking that we may be seeing a Mafia set in the 70s.

70's wouldn't be bad. I think you could be right seeing the cars and the big afro. Makes me think of the US version of Life on Mars.

The 70s were the height of the car film/TV show, and the end of 'Big Mafia.' They could really use that to their advantage. I've been waiting for GTA to do 70s (again) for a while now.

Sounds like a GTA 1970 New Orleans. Which sounds interesting.

Ive often considered a replay of the first two but both their endings turn me off. really disliked the endings. The first one I know theres no way to change. But the second one isn't there an addon or something for him? I guess Ill never replay them.

Im sure Ill enjoy this one but when I think Mafia I think 20s - 40s. It why I like them in order so far although the second one was a much better made and looking game.

There were a few DLCs, but none of them really added much. Most of them were new cars and clothes. There was one DLC where you play Joe while Vito's in prison and another where you played a man unrelated to the main storyline.

Vito's returning in Mafia 3.

Image
In 1968 - seventeen years after killing Carlo Falcone - a 43-year-old Vito is now residing in New Orleans and teams up with Lincoln Clay along with 2 others for control of the city when a powerful crime lord has control over them. Much of Vito's life since 1951 (and his relationship with the Vinci crime family, or the aftermath of Joe's possible demise) is yet to be specified, but is has been revealed that he has since served another stint in prison and now lives a mundane, shabby life, working in a fish restaurant overlooking the city's marina.

I liked Vito. Sad what his life became. Hope he has a good part in this one and doesn't sacrifice himself in the end.

Yeah, the Mafia life wasn't too good for him. They played him like pawn and he got nothing in return. So, it's not surprising that he's part of his, wanting to help take down the Mafia. I have a feeling one mission will involve Joe.

I think I'll definitely wait how this turns out and when it's on sale. Absolutely loved the first one (for whatever reason, I never had any problems with the infamous race) and actually finished the second one but did it more to check it off than because I liked it so much.
Felt that all the work that was put into the world and city was "wasted" on the game, it was never more than the background for the scripted missions; to me it felt empty and dead.

I still remember parts of the story of the first, I have trouble saying this about the second one (which I finished earlier this year ...)

Got my latest Game Informer and in it they have a multi page spread on the game. Graphics and character it looks pretty sweet. But I've got a big I DONT KNOW about it. I really dont think Ill get this one. Its not Mafia...you're not the mob. The 60's setting could be interesting but you play a guy / gang that is tearing down the mob. I dont want to play that. I want to BE the mob damnit....like usual. I would love a brand new Mafia set in the 1920's. I love the cars and weapons then. Just not feeling this one now.

You're working with the mob - just not the Italian mafia. You're working with the Irish and Haitian mobs against the Italians this time. I'm really looking forward to it. The 60s setting is one that hasn't been touched much in games (please, Rockstar, set GTA VI in 1979), and mixing New Orleans with racial tensions with Vietnam in the background could make for some interesting moments.

OK, I just gotta ask, why 1979? First of all, it's not the 60s you mentioned and secondly, it was the year I was married, so that's weird.

That was an aside. I've been wanting a 70s GTA for a while - it is the era of the car in entertainment, the time when TV shows and movies had iconic cars, the time when the car chase was king. There was an awesome variety of music, and the culture was chaotic, from late period hippies to organized crime to disco to drugs. It would be a perfect fit.

I said '79 because you could include everything from the era. I didn't say '80 (although early 80s would honestly fit a little better) because people have a different concept pop into their head when you set a game in that decade, one which was encapsulated perfectly in Vice City.

Yeah, why not do London in the 70's? Could be interesting, and it would be a refreshing change. And the series does need a change. They've already done Liberty City and San Andreas recently, and London hasn't been done since the 2D era. What could be done with the music from that era would be interesting as well.

As for Mafia 3, in a way, you are creating your own mob full of of disillusioned people to hit back at the italians. If that's not in the spirit of the mafia, I don't know what is. The mafia originally came out of a period of disillusionment for the italians, seeking a better life for themselves after finding disappointment after having immigrated overseas.

I loved Mafia 2, and I liked Mafia 1 (I probably only got halfway through before i couldn't really get much farther, or got distracted and never got back to it), so I'll pick this up at some point.

Yeah, that would work. I'd be happy to see more 20s-50s, in the US, though.

My only beef with the Mafia series..especially the first game...was all the driving I had to do. I know its the setting and a part of the feel of the game but it just felt like too much and too far all the time. This time with the type cars though it may actually be a fun part of it.

I would still love a full Mafia sim. Pick where to set up shop. Hire your goons. Promote your wise guys. Send them out on jobs. All kinds of fun. i was hoping Omerta was that game but it was ripped to shreds by reviews so I passed.

LOL...I seem to be out of touch with some series of games.

I think I have a mafia type game with a bit of sim to it...not sure which one...maybe it was Godfather 2 or something.

You might also want to look into Gangland. I haven't played it, but it's a bit more recent (2004) and looks to be more or less the same genre.

Just didn't seem to have much of a New Orleans or Mafia taste to it. Of course maybe I just missed it with the obnoxious audio overlay.
