Coffee runs are the new Major League Baseball hazing ritualKraken wrote:Government coffee keeps Maxwell House in business.
Tuesday morning, a handful of St. Louis Cardinal rookies were photographed making a coffee run at a Starbucks next to Wrigley Field before the first game of a day-night doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs. Among the rookies sent to fetch the lattes were pitchers Mitch Harris and Miguel Socolovich and bullpen catcher Kleininger Teran.
...
This isn't the first time an MLB team has sent the rooks on such a run. The Dodgers started the trend last fall when they sent a few new players, including Joc Pederson, to the same Chicago Starbucks.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Not really an abandoned post, BUT
I almost just replied in a thread to someone thinking they were someone else who posted earlier in the thread. My confusion was because they had an avatar with a couple of the same colors that almost, kinda looked nearly similar.
You people all look alike to me.

Re: Wonderpug's Abandoned Posts Thread
May I humbly suggest that a separate thread be started for what I am sure will be a lengthy and spoiler filled detailed microscopic analysis of the movie? I have tickets for Sunday and want to share in the excitement with my fellow OO'ers in this thread but don't want to accidently catch a spoiler. Either that or mark the thread title with a spoilers tag and I will abstain from viewing for a few days.
End of line

For the Cops Behaving Badly thread. I wrote it up, thought it was a mess, and deleted it.
Maybe we can even further simplify it by removing the financial incentive for traffic stops and making any stop require the cop to arrest the driver and bring them in. Speeding? That's 2 hours in jail for every 5mph over the limit. Failing to use a signal? That's 2 hours. No "criminal" record, but a mark on your license like you get now. Contesting the "ticket" then becomes a matter of getting the mark taken off your record. Without the cash incentive to pull people over, you might see police just not bothering to pull people over for very petty, minor things because it's a big hassle to go through the motions and only people behaving dangerously get their real attention. Then we limit public exposure to police and keep police focused on things that matter more.

Re: Wonderpug's Abandoned Posts Thread
We're an atheist household, and just walking into a typical church makes my skin crawl because of the long history of ignorance, open hatred, and abuses I associate with them. I joke with my wife that I'll burst into flames if I'm ever forced into one. I'd probably feel more comfortable sitting in a 8x10 cell with a confessed rapist and murderer (I did work in a jail for a while and I've interacted with many murderers and rapists - none give me the willies like a priest does).
Even as a child, I wasn't comfortable with the way scouts were expected to provide a casual (or more) hat-tip to God. My wife's brother is also an atheist and had to do some strange mental juggling of the "space-time continuum" as his "higher power" that he felt pretty uncomfortable with in order to pass into Eagle Scout when he was a teen.
