I'm playing it on ps4 and really enjoying it. It even has harvesting and crafting, for crying out loud.

I'd love to play it, but it tells me my computer can't handle the number of snakes in it. So I sit here wondering if I should try it anyway, and try for a refund if it doesn't work, or just give up on it.

Mad Max was also supposedly to Mad for my computer, but that runs just fine. I guess if someone told me they were in the same boat, that the game says it is out of bounds for their computer but it runs fine, then I wouldn't keep hesitating.

I never much cared for the Metal Gears before, but this one looks like they added enough to entertain me.

The problem is that I only have 1 gig of video memory, and all the cool games now require 2.

Same here and I've only played one Metal Gear game way back in the past. "Fultoning" anything and anyone that isn't nailed down us the best! Top notch stealth mechanics and excellent graphics.

Tried reading a reddit timeline summary of the whole series and it gave me a headache so I'm just enjoying the game for what it is.

That way ends in madness. The Metal Gear story is absolutely insane. I tried reading a recap of it a few years back and it was already indecipherable.

Fair warning to anyone who wants to get this: You WILL see credits roll after every goddamn cut scene and mission. I kid you not.

Same with me. I will say it is probably my favorite console game I have played and in my top five games (at least top 10).

But the story is insanity. I only get about 1/3 of what they are talking about.

All of it. Seriously though, some of her "flirting poses" in the Helicopter border on the outright pornographic.
Jaymann wrote:What is the actual game play like?
Think of Assassin's Creed (Black Flag is a good analog) but add a metric ton of gadgets, gizmos, weapon types, and tactical options. A lot of the game is stealth-based (although you could go into every mission guns blazing and murder everything you see) as you sneak around several military targets, abducting officers, assassinating key figures, stealing blueprints and intel, observing movements, and avoiding detection. In some ways, it is like a modern military themed and open world Deus Ex Human Revolution, but better and in third person. For example, I have the choice of going into a base, sneaking up on men, interrogating them, knocking them out with a sleeper hold and then extracting them with a balloon device to serve on my base (called Fulton Extraction). Or, I could equip my stun bionic arm and charge it up as I sneak towards people, tasering them before they notice me. Or maybe I want to go with my rocket arm, where I can shoot out my fist like a guided missile, knocking people out as I hit them in the face (and creating a diversion). Perhaps I like to play the sniper, equipping a tranquilizing dart sniper rifle with a suppressor and picking off guards from afar one by one before I make my way to the base.

Or... I could just drop in with a tank I extracted from an enemy base, barrel into my objective, blow up everything that moves, and leave behind a smoking ruin.

So I guess you could call it, Far Cry 3/4 meets Deus Ex: HR meets Assassin's Creed meets a Michael Bay film.

Ok, I'm definitely on the fence. That description sounds fantastic, but that horrible plot breakdown linked earlier makes the story sound schizophrenic. Does this game have any decent plot, or is it something you just have to ignore? I really find I don't tend to enjoy completely nonsensical games.

The overarching plot is incomprehensible, but in the narrower mission to mission scope there's enough plot to drive you forward. I'm enjoying the game immensely despite not playing a Metal Gear game since the PS2 era, and not at all understanding wtf was going on in the game's intro mission.

Like Wonderpug said, the mission-to-mission story is quite good. You are tracking down a shadow organization that wronged you in an attempt to both find out why they did it and to level some vengeance against them. All along you take these missions that discuss rapid Soviet military buildup in the backdrop of the Soviet-Afghan war, the rise of PFs (Private Merc companies) around the globe, and the dangers of arms dealing and nuclear proliferation. So that stuff is is cool, has a pseudo-historical feel, and makes a bit more sense (in the context of a world where 1980s military technology far surpasses our own in 2015). There is also this cool "comrade in arms" thing going on with the main characters, Miller, Ocelot, and Big Boss (Snake).

But the other stuff that ties in to the near stream-of-consciousness Kojima canon is basically bonkers. You just ignore that, particularly if this is the first game you have played.

I will say that it does help to play Ground Zeroes first (the short "prequel" to this one). Or at the very least watch a Let's Play or story video on it.

So Friday was such a horrible day at work, I decided to take a chance and get myself something nice and shiny. So far, it plays just fine. I have, admittedly only made it out of the tutorial area after 90 minutes of crawling around. But there were no hiccups or problems. So I guess it is going to run fine.

One question, they allowed me to customize my face in the game, and then nothing happened. Is this just a joke or something?

I am not sure about that, but I think it has something to do with the FOB multiplayer missions. Also, a quick Google search tells me that it has some importance later in the story (past where I am).

So, enjoying it more than I ever thought I would, but I am getting nervous now. At what point do I need to start worrying about people invading my game to steal my stuff? I do not look forward to it.

The only game in which I didn't mind it was Watchdogs, because I don't think they really took anything of yours, and if you didn't spend a lot of time invading, the game didn't choose you for invasions very often.

I have to say I have absolutely no idea what is going on with this game. I picked it up on sale and got around to trying it last night. I've played through the first act, and it was like an hour long acid dream. I thought this was more on the lines of a Splinter Cell modern tech stealth game, and instead it's flying girls in straight jackets and beings made of pure fire. I am 800 ways confused right now.

It becomes more "conventional" after that strange, brutal, surreal tutorial and you can be as stealthy as you wish.

I would not say the story get more conventional, just the gameplay. The flying boy is still going to pop up in the game. You would probably do well to read a quick story wiki about the other games. This all has to do with genetic manipulation, telekinesis, super soldiers, and some hackneyed plan to bring peace through a nuclear armed giant robot.

I'm playing this right now. Just finished chapter one (which probably is the actual ending of the game) and done the two spec ops that you can only get after finishing the chapter one. No I am taking a break from doing missions. Focusing on building FOB. One FOB is full and I bought some mb coins to have enough to build second FOB because I missed the FOB sales (50% the normal cost to build FOB).

So far the FOB seem to be quiet. No one invaded my FOB and I only invaded less than 10 FOBs with only one win. Twice there are players defending their FOB.

Anyone still playing the Steam version of the game? I only found three players in my Steam friend list that have FOB.

Got this free on PS4 and am trying to like it but just cant. Its SO silly and stupid. I just got to mother base and its so silly I dont think I can keep playing it. I also have no idea who is who or why there is a flying redhead girl and a fire demon and why a cardboard box is stealth. Its just all so BLARGH stupid. Ill probably just delete it. And to top all the silly stuff off if one guard sees me then the whole town knows right where Im at even if I kill him right after he spots me. Never liked that in the Elder Scroll games and certainly dont here.

Ok, thankfully I wasn't the only one. I am waaaaaay late to this game. I don't remember how I picked it up (Bundle? Ridiculous sale?) but I figured I'd fire it up last night. It was an hour later when I finished the prologue/tutorial/introduction/acid trip and I am so very confused as to what the hell the story is. Is this supernatural? Can I kill people with my mind? Why did I spend an hour following around Kiefer Sutherland's butt crack? Was that really a giant flaming baleen whale that ate a helicopter? What the hell is going on?

EDIT: Ok, I see the updates above. For reference, the last Metal Gear game I played was on the NES in 1989. :D

Imagine playing this out of the blue, having never played any Metal Gear games, and as someone mentioned upthread, just assuming it was a Rainbow Six type game focused on stealth, but with just one dude. Wow. What in holy hell did I just witness? :D

During that (hour? ten?) of intro/tutorial/madman's fever dream, I remember thinking "I would be a great candidate for one of those Youtube videos where the entertainment and sole focus of the video is the gamer while he experiences something crazy for the first time"

Hell, I almost didn't pick up my kid from school today I was so absorbed by the madness of that first part. ONLY after I was really, finally free to do my own thing in the game, did I stop to think that this is "V" after all, so obviously some weird shit went down during Metal Gears I-IV to arrive at this chaos. So as many of you, off I went to the innertubes to try to make some sense of what I had just witnessed, and quickly realized I wanted to stop playing V, and play at least one of the previous titles in the series first, so maybe things would make a little more sense.

I will say this...I am not one to play the latest games, considering how big my "great old games that demand to be played" backlog is, so maybe the sheer...intensity of that intro is not so far outside the norm of AAA titles these days. I know that my jaw physically dropped several times, and I just kept repeating "WHAT THE...?!?" out loud. I had just never experienced ANYthing like that on ANY game, and I was completely blown away.

So, yeah....wow indeed. Hats off to Mr. Hideo for granting me one of the most surreal, intense, yet passive (game is still in tutorial mode, and you can barely walk) gaming hours I have ever experienced.

And finally:
Spoiler:
I was floored by the whammy I was thrown re: character creation. At first I was extremely pissed...I had just spent about 30 minutes carefully crafting the PERFECT "new face" for the character. And it was amazing. :P Just BRILLIANT that they take that generic and almost tropish, now, game element and just pissed on it in front of you. Kudos to any game that can twist me around from outrage to respect in about 10 seconds. :D
I really can't wait to come BACK to this game after playing an older MG game, to see what else it can deliver in the "WTF JUST HAPPENED?!" department.
