(Boardgame) Star Wars Rebellion by FFG

Post by MythicalMino »

FFG announced today thst they are developing a new Star Wars board game. I thought their contract was not for board games? Anyways....it is set in the original trilogy and is due in 1st quarter of 2016.

Some ppl are saying it is at the very least inspired by the old PC game of the same name.

The mini's. Looks cool but I'm not that much of a Starwars fanatic, plus 4 players is too low for my group. I have Forbidden Stars, which I love, but it never makes it to the table.

I'll likely end up grabbing this especially since it looks ripe for two players. But the 4 hour last time is step. FFG sure has knocked it out of the park with the star wars license.

Really, the only significant way this game differs from what I had been imagining in my head was that in my version it was set during the Old Republic, and there were four COIN-esque factions - the Republic, the Sith Empire, the Jedi, and the Sith. The Jedi are naturally aligned with the Republic and the Sith with the Empire, but there interests diverge - the Jedi and Sith are more interested in each other and the Force than power realities in the galaxy, so the Sith would be perfectly happy with the Republic defeating the Empire if in the process they destroy the Jedi and effectively dominate the galaxy in secret.

So, the Jedi and Sith factions would intervene in the galactic fighting, but at the same time would be pursuing their own agendas.

Not that I'm pining away for human contact in my "retirement" but I'd be happy to play this with you. I'll even bring the beer instead of raiding your fridge.

The miniatures look really great which is what I expect from FFG. They even have the Death Star part deux with all the uncompleted decks hanging out!

This was talked about pretty extensively in a recent Shut up and Sit down podcast. They loved it and it sounded really interesting. Unfortunately for me, it also sounds like it is really made for two players, which means I would never get to play it.

FYI, you can preorder this on several of the online retailers (given that the new Asmodee policies do not screw this up). It looks to be around $70. I really really want it, but I just know it will never get played.

The shut up and sit down podcast got me really excited about this game. It looks like a fun two player game that lets you kind of rewrite the original trilogy. I think I am going to pre-order it.

I'm almost certainly going to get this, although it's unlikely that it will get played in person more than a grand total of once. How likely is it that there will be a Vassal (or Tabletop Simulator) module for this, and if so how long after the game's release would a module like that typically come out?

It is a little hard to logically justify the purchase given that I'm only likely to play this in person once or twice, but I would get a LOT more use out of the game if I could also play it online via Vassal.

Yeah, two player games are too small for my group. Hell, 4 player games have to be scheduled and some people do not get invited once we have the 4 people needed. <sigh>

But I really want this game....

I have a plethora of 2 player games that rarely hit the table as well (Memoir '44, Twilight Struggle, Star Wars LCG, Heroes of Normandie, right off the top of my head). I love each of these games, but we can play one of them maybe every 6 months when someone can't show for our regular game night.

But I'm going to get this one anyway. I'm going to try and see if I can get my 13 year old to play it with me.

I guess it does allow for 2 teams, so up to four players. Just bought TI3 and the latest expansion to Eclipse so my board game moola is a little low. I might wait for all the reviews to come through and then buy it even if they are negative. heh. It's an FFG game, so there should be plenty out there to get.
