That would explain why I've ignored his appearance in that movie. Freakin' Ben Stiller.

It's not an In Memoriam without some snubs.

That's probably more of an Oscar issue as I'm pretty sure David Bowie wasn't behind those snubs.

Bowie or Issie? Because I gotta be honest, the jury is still out on Issie. I've been told (mostly by Issie) that he's come from the future to give us all the gift of funk.

I realize she writes catchy tunes and they're better than the average pop song you find on the radio, but good lord(e) she just shouldn't be singing. She's not even "Tom Waits so bad it's good".
Back to this, I liked the performance because it was understated. The cool thing for me was the band for that performace was Bowie's last touring band. They got back together after eleven years and practiced for 100 hours to play that 6 minute tribute.

I was on the Shout Factory channel on my Roku last night and came across the Dick Cavett show archive. In it I found an early 70's show featuring David Bowie. He performed 1984 and Young Americans and it was great to see a young David Bowie performing. However, the interview was a bit distracting because Bowie was obviously high as a kite during the whole thing. Sniffing constantly, jerky movements, really hard to understand when he spoke, etc.. But considering that Bowie himself would readily admit he did a lot of drugs during that time, it's not that shocking.

Having finally cut the cable myself, I watched that just the other day. I believe "coked-up" is the word you're looking for.

o.t., but in the early 70's I worked in the supplies department at ABC and encountered a number of on-air personalities in the employees' elevator. Dick Cavett was never anything less than friendly and gracious towards a snot-nosed college kid like myself.

Howard Cosell was a prick, but that probably comes as no surprise.

I'm still amazed that he kept it to himself, and this was his last video published (I think). I miss few people, and know little of music, but he always impressed me.

I was flipping through broadcast channels last night and came across this little bit of pain from Mr. Bowie and Cher.

Yeah, my son had a hard time explaining to his high school friends why he got so upset at school during the day when he didn't hear it straight from me.

Guardian
The publishing rights to David Bowie’s huge and peerless catalogue of songs have been sold by his estate to Warner Chappell Music (WCM), the publishing arm of Warner Music Group, in a deal worth at least $250m (£185m) according to anonymous sources speaking to Variety.
...
The deal means that Warner now owns the rights to Bowie’s songwriting itself, as well as to almost all the recordings of it. In September 2021, the company completed a deal to acquire Bowie’s recordings from 2000 until his death in 2016, adding to the recordings it already owned from 1968 to 1999.

Just a small cache of recorded music made prior to Bowie’s late-60s breakthrough is now not owned by Warner Music. The company has been lavishly repackaging Bowie’s back catalogue in a series of box sets in recent years.
...
Terms of the Bowie deal have not been disclosed but the Bowie estate has historically closely controlled the use of his work. The 2020 biopic Stardust, about the birth of Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust persona, was forbidden by the estate from using Bowie’s music.
...
Another film that does already have the blessing of the estate is a forthcoming untitled documentary by film-maker Brett Morgen, who is using thousands of hours of rare and unseen live performance footage as its basis.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

I'm surprised it was only 250M. Springsteen's went for 500M.
