So...shooter right? team based? I dont have a copy of Game Informer to see it.

I heard it is going to be a MOBA. Not my cup of tea.

You need a SHIFT account. If you've played Borderlands and used SHIFT codes you have an account already.

Im in the closed beta now. Shall see. I cant post anything but it looks fun to me. Like Overwatch from Blizzard.....not really a MOBA.

Yes it is.
If they were making Borderlands 3 I'm pretty sure I'd buy it sight unseen, but I'll probably bide my time with this one. I'm much more interested in how the story mode holds up as a singleplayer game, since I'm not much into competitive (or even co-op) multiplayer.

I see now where you guys are getting the MOBA thing. I played a versus game type. Its still a shooter in that type play and first person but you escort minions to the enemies area. But in CO-OP its straight up a shooter campaign. Im betting there will be many other types of play too. I can say Im having a load of fun. Found my new favorite character. I dont think Ive broken any NDA rules by saying what I have.

Yeah, it and Overwatch are the same month. Both look good, but Overwatch is more of a traditional team shooter, which is less appealing to me. OTOH, Overwatch is Blizzard, so it will have a huge community and a long lifespan.
I'm not that interested in the competitive multiplayer focus, and I can't shake the feeling that the story mode is going to be disappointing. I should hold out until I know more about story mode, but I'm not known for my willpower when it comes to purchase decisions.
I think that what will save me from myself is the fact that it comes out just a week before Stellaris, and I'm going to be all in on that.

You make an excellent point. Stellaris comes out the day after my birthday, and I think I will be pretty busy with it...
I think Overwatch comes out two days after Stellaris, so Stellaris may have saved me a lot of potentially misspent money!
I watched some campaign footage (pre-alpha) and all I could think was how completely screwed the sword guy was in the final mini-boss battle where the thing was jumping around from platform to platform and spewing out AOE attacks.
I mean, what is the melee dps guy supposed to do in that case? In the video it appeared he did exactly what I thought he would do: run around aimlessly since he can't attack anything.
Smoove_B wrote:Yeah, I saw it was 50GB minimum, 70 GB recommended. That would be like...8 days to download for me.
That's the install footprint for the full game. Their site says the beta download is 12GB.
Oh yeah, I'm sure the beta is smaller. I was just thinking in terms of then actually purchasing and playing the game, anything over 30 GB at this point is noticeably prohibitive on my end. Hell, even 20GB takes patience.
I can see this being very popular. I would not buy it if you are Only going to play the single player campaign. The single player missions basically beg you to either invite people to co-op or play with random online weirdos. Otherwise they have some issues, at least the two included with the demo.
So for example, I was playing one of the ranged shooters. Keep in mind this was in a 5-man single player mission (a raid, as the game called it). There were some enemies that were completely immune to my primary weapon, I could only damage them with my special weapons (which are on recharge timers). I don't know how you would effectively fight them if you were playing alone besides slowly wearing them out and hiding. The same can be said for the melee classes I saw, there were unreachable sniper enemies that only the shooters could reach.
Don't kid yourself, this is a multiplayer game. Still fun though. Most of it silly fun like TF2.
Watched a bit of Total Biscuit's video, where he spends a lot of time trying to differentiate this game from Blizzard's entry. Not being familiar with either game, I don't really understand the differences yet, but I admit that I had lumped them together in the same genre.
He spent so much time talking about the philosophy of the game that I haven't actually seen any gameplay yet. I'll return to the video tonight to see what's what.
I admit I'm curious about the game, but not particularly excited. That could change. I'm always interested in any game that is good.
Overwatch is a direct evolution of Team Fortress 2 with very unique player classes.
Battleborn is a straight up MOBA that just happens to be played with skill based FPS combat.
They are both pretty good and quite unique, despite surface similarities.

I was under the impression that, while there was an MOBA-type of mode, it was just one mode of several. Admittedly, this was a while ago when the game was in early development. Is the MOBA mode considered the main focus now?
Its like a mix of moba, fps, and coop campaign without any moba.

It was the main focus in the beta, not sure if the full game will be different. The main mode I played was one where you had to march your minions across the map and feed them to a sentient trash compactor that thought it was a god and demanded tribute. Quite a amusing actually.
It does offer a single player/co-op campaign, however. We played around with it a bit. It seemed solid but not amazing. You choose a character for what is basically a mini story campaign. Your character levels up in the same way it would in a multiplayer match. Game play is a bit simple; walk into a big room, kill all enemy spawners, maybe do a simple puzzle and then move on. Each section concludes a massive boss battle that feels a bit like a raid boss in an MMO.
there is a moba light mode, a moba mode and a domination/point capture mode as well as the story mode coop missions. The story missions play more like an MMO dungeon.
I got a surveymonkey about it yesterday. I filled it out honestly. I thought it was a well designed survey for a change instead of the stupid unsub nag surveys you get from MMOs.
There was one Q though that mentioned something where I didn't know what they were talking about, and there was an "I don't know what that is" answer so I checked that one. Then I looked up the term on their site and it was something I used and knew about but I didn't know that term for it, because in-game I was calling it something else.
It was helix mutations, but in game when you're playing and don't have time to pick them the little flashy indicator on your screen says "Augmentation". At least that's what I thought it said. Maybe it said Mutation. It's slightly transparent and easy to not pay attention to. I just referred to that element as augments.
those are augments, mutations are the third option for augments that appear on the helix when you level a character up. The survey was asking how/if you used those extra options.

There was another game that I am unable to differentiate from this one that released this week that is likely driving that discount. Hell, I can't even tell the names apart.

Overwatch.
Battleborn = gearbox (I think?)
Overwatch = Blizzard
I want to say that the games are only superficially alike, not actually samey, but I can't remember the details, having played neither.
Good call on the competition with Overwatch. That's almost certainly what it is.

Battleborn = Multiplayer character driven lane pusher (MOBA) with a lite single player/co-op mode.
Overwatch = Multiplayer character driven team Deathmatch objective thingy (Team Fortress) with no single player co-op mode.
Battleborn has more characters but most are less interesting. Overwatch has more maps but less modes. Both are fun and generally well made but quite different types of games.
