Archer Season 7

Post by Isgrimnur »

AV Club
FX’s merry band of spies, or drug runners, or whatever it is they do these days will return March 31, the premiere date for Archer’s mysterious seventh season. Despite previous announcements that the show would be moving to FXX, Sterling Archer and the gang—the artists formerly known as ISIS—will apparently be staying at the network that’s been their home for the last six years, with the 13-episode season—the second of two the show was renewed for near the end of season five—still set to air on FX.

Wow, 7 seasons. Has it really been that long? It seems like just yesterday I started to yell "PHRASING" at people.

To be fair, it was just yesterday that you were still doing that, despite all those meetings with HR.

We binged on the first five seasons on DVD, but netflix still shows S6 as "availability unknown." I was hoping it would be out before S7 starts so that we could catch up, but Nooooooooooooo.

The DVD release of Archer seasons has historically always been after the start of the new season.

Amazon currently shows no release date for Season 6 but at least it's available for pre-order.

For what that's worth.

They'll advertise season six as soon as season 7 starts if past performance is any indicator of future results.

Me too. Binging is appropriate Archer consumption.

They've been posting a bunch of pictures on their Twitter. They also had pictures in the SI Swimsuit Edition, I guess.

Yeah, when they moved from Connery to Moore so abruptly, I had to start questioning my memory of the films.

Last week's season opener didn't really click with me and I was a little worried... but this week's episode was great. Archer's ringtone and voicemail bits never get old. Also Krieger "never being able to stand up". Also the return of phrasing!

Yes, this last week's episode was top notch. Above and beyond what you mentioned, the whole trunk name discussion was top notch. It's really awesome how I don't have a favorite character. Just like Arrested Development each one of them makes me laugh - they're all great.

Archer was rocking that whole Jack Nicholson Chinatown look with the bandage over his nose.

As usual, I depend on Netflix, so I'm a year behind. I just finished season 6 and I was at least somewhat underwhelmed.

I think Archer achieved perfection in seasons 1,2, and 3.

I'm usually like that for most comedies but I think they've stayed on point and grown and changed and kept fresh pretty well.

However, I also admit I haven't seen this week's episode because the season premiere was weak.

I like that they've changed up situations and plots, and they've pushed some of the characters in new directions. But I don't think the writing in season 6 was as good as before. Part of what's great about the earlier writing is that they never spelled out the jokes for you, and there was more of that going on this time.

I agree with you, but it felt like the season premiere was a setup for the second episode - which was really good.

I hadn't paid attention. You might be right. If true, it hasn't bothered me to date. If I start watching and suddenly feel they're dumbing down the show, I blame you for ruining one of my top three TV shows.

I'd agree the first episode wasn't their best and the 2nd was pretty damn good. Loved the spinning around in chairs. Hell I liked the first episode too. Archer is, IMO, one of the best shows on TV.

Happy to hear there's more Archer to come, but I hope things improve. Minus a few moments and maybe one or two overall episodes this season fell flat for me.

Concurred. But then I hate featured guest actor, so I'm no good of a judge. Really I thought it was a general turn in the wrong scathing interpersonal dysfunction direction, I guess. But whatever, the ultimate thing is that this season fell flat for me. It started fair to middlin, got stronger, and then just flat lined for most of the season.

Also, I figured
