Chicago... nice city you have here

Post by $iljanus »

So every year your fine city hosts a big oncology conference that my wife attends and every so often my daughter and I come along. It had been maybe 3 years since the last time we came and it was a pleasure to come back. Saw a great Cubs game with some friends and tomorrow plan on going to the art museum so my daughter can do some sketches then contemplate the big bean for a little while at Millennium Park. If anyone is free for some lunch tomorrow I'd be open to it. Daughter will be tagging along but she's good company.

On Saturday we plan on meeting Hepcat and Archnerd at a local game shop which I'm looking forward to.

In any case happy to be back in Chicago. Great weather and looking forward to some early morning walks along the river. Staying at the Hyatt Regency on Wacker which ain't bad. Wife's new job for the win!

Yeah I've been hearing about T-storms possibly rolling in on Saturday. Perhaps will also be a good time to watch Captain America Civil War.

My wife is off this weekend so naturally the weather goes to shit. Our landlord will be by next week for lease renewal, so it's best we spend a day cleaning the house. The boy was particularly destructive today, and I need to rent a carpet cleaner to undo some doggie damage to the carpet.

I haven't been to Chicago since the last time I went to CES, 30 some-odd years ago, but it was one of my favorite cities.
I spent 90% of the money I made on women, booze, and drugs. The other 10% I just pissed away.

Ive always found Chicago to be one of those "great place to visit, wouldnt want to live there" kind of cities.

Great, I look forward to meeting you!

I just want to reassure you that "Hepcat's local game shop" is not a euphemism for anything. It's definitely not an organ harvesting factory or anything remotely resembling a Carrot Top/Bea Arthur cosply sex dungeon.

I've been there literal months this year for work and can say - like visiting but I don't know if I'd live there. I have been told that it is very different in the summer so I'll have to give it a chance - especially since I anticipate my client will try to lure me out there. That said I definitely need to explore it more.

Never said Detroit metro was a great place to live. It just happens to be where my employment landed me. My comment wasnt a knock on Chicago, I feel that way about most major metro areas. I am a small town guy. I like what cities like Chicago have to offer but I still wouldnt want to live there. I feel the same way about Detroit. Please come buy my house so I can move.

I can stop by for an hour or so, between kids birthday parties, a fundraiser, painting, and a trip to the storage locker, but I hate being a tease.

Maybe if I get there right around Hellas time...

Same. I was going to post a similar comment, but I didn't want $iljanus to get flagged by the FDA.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

I took both organs when sil wasn't looking.

It was good meeting you and your daughter. I still feel bad about losing her quarter though. Hopefully she doesn't hold a grudge. I'd hate to be in my 70s and she comes gunning for me.

Saw Spike Lee last friday on ESPN's First Take.

He mentioned while most of America was all up in arms about a Gorilla and a boy in a zoo,
there were 69 shootings in Chicago. Nice place, yeah right. Thanks but I'll pass.

Those shootings are mostly gangs who are pissing each other off with posts online. A shooting in Wicker Park was a gang member who didn't live in the area ... and was shot the last time he was in the area.

Turns put that trolling online has consequences in Chicago. Hope hepcat enjoys your kidneys.

Yes, Chicago has a gun problem.

Patchwork is great. I'm similar to her in some ways, I set up Churchill almost as soon as I got home.

You just have to remember when you visit your peeps in da 'hood that you clear it first with the local gangsta boss...it's only common courtesy. If you get a cap busted in yo' ass it's yo' own damn fault.

Most of us just stay out those 'hoods and live a long life unshot. Even when violence occurs outside the typical hot zones, the news story invariably includes the phrase "known gang member" to describe one or more persons involved or traveling with the shot person.

Thankfully, Siljanus and the rest of us aren't members of rival gangs and thus weren't in any real danger. Although I do believe Sil's daughter might be a Crip. She threw up a gang sign at one point, I believe. That or she was just doing what most folks do when they first meet me and was just trying to flip me off.

Yeah, but one of my kids stubbed his toe twice in five minutes (on the same damn bookcase).
