If you have someone to do Local co-op with, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is one of the best multiplayer experiences you can have. Unfortunately it has no online co-op.

If someone had limited/inefficient use of their mouse due to a cast, I assume playing this would go poorly?

Oh, yes, this basically does require a controller to play well. I tried the keyboard/mouse controls and they are very awkward. The gun turrets for example, have analog type movement. The longer you hold a joystick in a direction, the faster they turn. With a controller this feels natural but with keyboard controls it just feels weird.

The idea of the game is that you and another person are flying a spaceship but it’s a spaceship designed for like 6 people and there are only two of you despite everything being manually operated. So you have to run around inside the spaceship jumping from control station to control station as needed. The idea being that you might have one person on guns while another drives but if you do that no one is going to be operating the shields. Or you can have shields and guns but you won’t be going anywhere. Objectives are things like navigating asteroid fields, fighting alien ships and collecting objects.
