Great! I think I already paid for it. Will be nice to get some more content without reaching for my wallet.

Confirming that it's a freebie if you've purchased Part 1.
Big Patch details.
It's been a while for me so will spend a bit of time remembering how the heck to do everything and making sure the adventuring party is loaded up properly.

No, parts 1 and 2 are separate DLC purchases unless you bought the White March pass.

Putting this aside for now as I'm running into bugs.
- Sneaking no longer is positively impacted by having boots of speed
- After some battles, clicking on treasure/corpses has no effect
- Load/save times are ponderously slow

Re: Pillars of Eternity from Obsidian
I noticed in the Game Finished 2016 thread you finished this with the expansions. I Kickstartered the game but just have the base. I played a bit in the beginning, the story was ok and I would have gone on but I found the combat to be very difficult. I have no idea why because I've played Baulder's Gate and Dragon Age, etc. I am considering giving it another try and I have three options:Jolor wrote:To their credit, 3.01 came out yesterday. Yet to check it out.
1) Play through the base only
2) Play through the base then get expansions
3) Get the expansions then play through the whole thing.
I doesn't seem like 2 is much of an option because the expansions appear to be in the middle of the game.
What would you (or anyone else who's played the game extensively) recommend?
End of line

Re: Pillars of Eternity from Obsidian
3.
The expansion(s) offer good value and provides a Monk and Barbarian NPC with decent quests and arcs.
I found that taking over the micromanagement of the battles (I know I'm repeating myself a bit from the Games Finished thread) made all the difference in battle management for me. That's also the way I played BG and IWD. A few tips:
- auto-pause when enemy, traps, etc are detected
- Sneak a lot to scout out areas (I made my own thief NPC as a a good one isn't really available until
White March)
- Understand that Vitality is a mix of Endurance and Health. You can find potions/scrolls to restore
endurance; health, not so much. A Paladin helps.
- I hoarded camping supplies. If I had the max and found one, I rested and pillaged the supply.
- Run to safety instead of running into danger Often the monsters can be out-run.
- Look for doorways, pinch points, etc to lure monsters into
- Do not undervalue the value of the buffing cleric and the spell chucking wizard
- Specifically the latter, take spell grimoires from fallen spell casters and learn every spell possible.
- Do pay attention to the weapon specializations of your and your NPC characters
- ... and upgrade your weapons/armours accordingly
- here's a funny thing: modifiers don't stack. if you have a +x and add a +y, you do not gain benefit
from the +y
Despite wanting and trying to complete all NPC quests, my own, personal, go-to lineup was
Paladin / Fighter / Me (Ranger) / Thief / Priest / Mage
I never got the hang of (though in limited cases enjoyed the abilities of: Monk / Cipher / Druid. An implementation strategy of my own, I admit.

Just picked up the base game on GOG for $18 - on sale for a while; grab it if you don't have it.
I don't know when I'll get to it. I'm still heavily in a "space" phase for gaming with drift into zombies next - maybe after that?

I played 10 min of Pillars when it released and put it away for later. Can you not just grab all and attack 1 target at a time to win battles?

No, not if you want to win. Pillars' combat is deeper than that.

Re: Pillars of Eternity from Obsidian
Yeah, the combat's quite challenging. There's all kinds of ways to block enemy movement, and you *really* need to watch the mages, they will wreck your day.
Only time it's not challenging is if you wind up missing some random quest then coming back to it having outleveled it by about five levels.
The other "challenging" aspect to the game was the far too frequent area transitions coupled with long loading times. Granted, I "only" have a 7200 rpm platter drive, but still.

Oh...I was figuring on playing it just like the old Infinity Engined games. Guess it may be even more fun now after hearing this.

It looks like there are. Why would you want to do that? It looks like the difficulty settings would allow you to make it quite easy.Lorini wrote:Are there mods for this game so I can cheat my way through it?

Re: Pillars of Eternity from Obsidian
The combat gets repetitive after numerous fights. I'm not sure easy mode would fix that, other than speeding up each encounter by a bit. Sometimes I wish RPGs had a boss only modeAlefroth wrote:It looks like there are. Why would you want to do that? Pillars of Eternity 2 is going to be announced via Fig today. Looks like Polygon jumped the gun and their story hit my RSS feed, although it's since been taken down.

I am working through this now and determined to finish multiple RPG's this year in my backlog. I fizzled my first go through and got hung up on the weird way the attribute stats work. I embraced it this go through and rolled a Druid which has been a blast to play. I also recruited/created an Orlan crit based Barbarian to complement. Way more fun this go around. I am right at the end of chapter 2 I think and going to start the first exp. before moving on. Looking forward to the second one but am ok if it takes a few years since I got about 6 other RPG's to work through first.

Here it be. I'm in. $29 for the digital copy. Guessing it'll be $39 at launch. Loved Pillars 1, so I'm fine donating early to help them out.

I'll have to remember to take a look at it when I get home, fig is blocked from work. I'm probably in, although I haven't finished the expansions for the first game yet. Well, I'll have time and the expansions will probably go on sale at some point. Plus, now that I've got a solid state drive and CPU upgrade, the loading times might not be as horrific.

Funny, I never got into White March because 1) I had been away too long and now suck at PoE, and 2) I didn't like how it just snuck in before the endgame. So I started over yesterday. Should be fun. I'm now a Wild Orlan Ranger woman.Jag wrote:Backed.

Still haven't checked out Tyranny. Maybe after I finish PoE again.
I will say that PoE on my shiny new PC is awesome. Way quicker loading! Also I'm excited that PoE2 will have streaming locations rather than load screens.

Same exact reason why I never played White March. It was too long after I finished to jump back in and I wasn't ready for a second play through.Zaxxon wrote:Funny, I never got into White March because 1) I had been away too long and now suck at PoE, and 2) I didn't like how it just snuck in before the endgame. I don't have White March 1&2, which is why I'm trying to figure out whether to buy that or Tyranny now.
