Whoopsie. Not even close, thank goodness.

The Austrians, Dutch, and French have all now rejected the far-right candidate in their elections. Perhaps Trump was a wake up call to these nations, though the fact that these candidates are legit contenders means that we can't assume the tide has completely turned. Still, a 30 point trouncing today is a nice relief.

A divided France with serious concerns nevertheless stood and resisted the siren call of fear, hate, and fascism.

I wish we had been strong enough and wise enough to do the same.

The mainstream right-leaning party in France had enough sense to reject Le Pen. Here, the GOP embraced Trump and adopted Trumpism as the platform of the Republican Party. I don't know how they retreat from that now, at least until it starts costing them elections. We'll see if that happens.

At this point none of that matters.

The only thing that does is the number and severity of terror attacks under his watch.

That will determine if his stay in power lasts.

I predict France will become even more of a powder keg than it has been, we shall see.

It's so comforting to know that Rip is ok with letting the terrorists and Russia decide democratic elections around the world.

President W. Bush at least said terrorists were not going to change our way of life.

While I agree that his sentiment was better the Patriot act proved it a lie. Our way of life changed substantially.

Viva Le Pen

Post by Zarathud »

Trump just replaced it with nepotism (Ivanka/Jared), direct sales of government access (Mar a Lago/Kushner family visa sales) and direct control of government by billionaires, oil industry and Wall Street. He's upgraded to even fatter cats--and Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan seem pretty comfortable too.

But that has nothing to do with the French being on the front lines of fighting Russian and terrorist influence while maintaining a multicultural democracy. They didn't surrender -- but America did.

You realize that Macron's was the victim of an email hack, just like Hillary Clinton was (an hour after the release of the infamous Trump p@%#y grabbing tape, oddly enough), right? Putin has favorites. Macron is not one of them. Neither was Hillary. He likes candidates who he feels might weaken NATO and destabilize countries/regions he sees as threats. So he seeks to embarrass and damage them via these methods.

Congratulations, Comrade! You serve a new master...and you're probably not even aware of it.

So far I haven't heard of any genuinely dirty laundry revealed by the Macron hacks. The tax evasion docs your conspiracy site was touting are being shown to be fakes.

But it does turn out that *someone* didn't fully clean up after themselves: some of the dumped docs appear to contain metadata tags in Cyrillic. Quelle coincidence!

You're fine with that, though, right Rip? Attempts to undermine democracy are good when they're intended to help your side?

The only debunking I saw was on the .pdf files, but once better scans were released the inconsistencies of the sig and such was shown to be due to crappy conversion not doc altering.

Macron Won, But The French Polls Were Way Off
Emmanuel Macron’s 32-percentage-point victory in France’s presidential election runoff may end up being touted as a triumph for French pollsters, who consistently gave him a huge advantage. But it shouldn’t be. The polls leading up to the contest between the centrist Macron and his far-right opponent were the least predictive in French history, underestimating Macron’s support, rather than Marine Le Pen’s, to the surprise of some.

Here's an article from France24, a genuine news source, which details the release of the docs and the rumor-mongering around them.

Macron's campaign has launched a highly public lawsuit, which seems like the wrong thing to do if you've got easily verifiable bank accounts (complete with alleged docs and account numbers) you're trying to keep hidden.

I'll continue watching the story to see what truths come out. In fact I can think of other public figures whose tax information deserves very close inspection. Can't you?

All of the debunking in that article come down to the pdf having some blurred images. Which I say again isn't an issue now that image scans are out and they DO NOT have the blurs in question. The only thing they use beyond that to "debunk" is badmouthing the source.

Far too much bunk in the debunking.
