Agreed, teletype was so much better.

Unless you're trying to read them as they come in, teletype is much better. You can do other things while you wait, like gripe on the internet about the good ol' days.

I don't know about teletype but keypunch cards/tape was far superior to all these dongle thingys.

Even if there was no power and no light I could feel my data right there at my fingertips. It was safe I could be sure.

If teletype is an option, the know-how to repair teletype machines exists.

Not sure how I didn't notice before today, but I am a lefty and yet I seem to only text with my right hand. I just tried it with my left and it felt weird like writing with my right hand. Errrr....

My kids are all right handed but they mouse left handed because their first usages of a computer were on mine and I'm left handed.

I don't do FPS so I find a track ball works for me. I'm in a location (easy chair) where a mouse isn't practical and I use my trackball down on my leg, almost on my knee.

My kids are both left-handed, but they've always moused and played everything right-handed on the computers.

They report that all of their left-handed friends are the same. Nobody uses IJKL instead of WASD.

Anyone have any idea why a TV not hooked to any computer would show a WinXP desktop on channel 3?

I'm driving home with groceries. I can hear things moving, know that the back lift will be booby-trapped.

I open the lift.
I catch the bag that falls.
I catch the metal can of raviolis that fall.
I fail to catch the large glass jar of tomato sauce.
Fuck.

Why is it so hard to allow people to see that I'm not very good at things?

I need to learn more Korean prior to our move. My wife is diligently working away at it. I was ok until I got caught up in working with the robotics team over Jan. and Feb. and now I'm way behind. I know she would be supportive but I have a horrible time forcing myself to work on it in front of her because she is so far ahead.

Selfies make your nose look 30% bigger, study says
Taking selfies at a distance of about 12 inches from the face increases perceived nose size by nearly 30%, according to a report published Thursday in the journal JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery.

Researchers now are cautioning that patients interested in cosmetic procedures should not turn to self-photographs as guidance when considering making changes to their faces.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

I work in a building with a huge number of employees, so I have a lot of half acquaintances, and they call me by the wrong name all the time. This doesn't bother me, and I never bother to correct them, but I just realized that I'm not particularly good with names. Now I'm stuck wondering how often I'm that asshole.

I've been busting my ass to get back into the black for the last eight months. I'm finally there this month. And then the landlady just upped my rent by 25%.

Heh. I've been through all my finances this afternoon. If I boot every luxury I still pay for (Spotify premium, Netflix), I can recover about a third of it. The only other bill I could reduce would have minimal financial benefit in exchange for significant service reductions. I've got one thing that should help - an increase in living expenses should result in an increase in state benefits - but that's a maybe, and it will require me riding out the new expenses for a couple of months just to find out whether it will be a token increase or enough to offset this.

We get behind more and more. Lost some stuff like Paypal for now and owe some money . But when I think we'll catch up then something else comes up to ruin it. Every time. Hoping to fix PayPal this month. We have lived on crackers and tea for 5 or so days before but last month because it was so cold we had a high bill and went about 9 days on water, tea, crackers, and 4 cans of soup. Sucks. And we cant get food stamps. Its nuts. At least im not fat lol. Silver lining.

That happens to everybody - those surprise unexpected expenses. To those of us living right at the line, though, it tends to be a lot more disruptive.

Don’t worry about it, Steve.
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range

Man, the IRS scammers aren't even trying any more. Got a robo-call this morning that said, "This is an urgency and very serious matter. We are calling you from the investigation team from an IRS, and need to speak urgently with you about important issues with tax. You must call us soon."

Step up your game, people.

Sometimes I think my postal carrier hates her job. I was sent a priority envelope with specific instructions on the outside to not bend or fold. What does she do? Folds it in goddamn half, crams it in the mailbox and jams mail on top of it. Thanks.

Chaosraven once had some MtG cards sent by mail that never arrived. A few weeks late, the PO delivered an empty envelope that said "do not bend of fold" It was crumpled and ripped open with a stamp over the initial markings that said something the the effect of "contents may be folded."
